No, it's line level input socket. You can't connect microphone directly to the line level input socket. You need a microphone pre-amplifier for that. As soon your microphone is amplified ( using an optional mic pre-amp) you can connect it to that "MP3" line level socket.

Can this be used during a parade for portable usage?

It is better used inside, but it can be used for a parade. You may have to mic it. Not sure if it would be loud enough without.
