Review: Awesome, cleans hair well - I've been using this for about two weeks and love it as a shampoo. I keep it in a spice shaker in the shower, wet my hair, and then dump some onto different parts of my head and rub it in. I let it sit for a couple minutes, and then rub it around some more and rinse. I got this because I had awful dry scalp this winter, and even my usual shampoo (Rahua volumising) was getting too drying. This definitely solves the problem and doesn't leave my hair greasy either. It doesn't have any smell, so I usually use conditioner before or after using this just for the smell. I find that you don't actually need conditioner while using this, though. I love how it's cheap too. I may be a permanent convert!!

Oil is NOT necessary for this product to work (I have used shakakai on its own and it works fine!) but I find my hair to be much more shiny and voluminous when I oil it before hand! Routine: The night before I have to shampoo, I oil my scalp and hair with a castor/coconut oil mix (although you can use any preferred oil) and I sleep with the oil in my hair. When I wake I make a paste of shakakai and rub it into my scalp and leave that on for as long as I can. Before I rinse, I condition my ends to help get the oil out. If you're not using conditioner, apple cider vinegar works too, just make sure to wash shakakai out before the ACV rinse.

**Q: How exactly do you use this product and how do I apply it?**
A: Mix with water and apply

**Q: Would it be possible to use this as a dry shampoo?**
A: I would not do so. While the powder has cleaning properties to it, I believe it's meant to be mixed with water or infused to get the real benefits of the product. I would think that it's too gritty to just stay in your hair. If you are looking for a "dry" hair shampoo natural alternative to those on the market, try witch hazel and an essential oil like lavender and put it in a spray bottle. There are several recipes on the internet for natural dry shampoo. I've even heard of people using baking soda too.  But in that case I guess you could try this powder too. I guess I've never been a fan of powder type of products for dry shampoo. I always used aresol products the few times I have used dry shampoo. If you go to Aveda they have a product that you spray directly on your scalp to get rid of the excess oil that I personally own that does a good job. It's witch hazel based. It's not sold as a "dry shampoo". It's more so targeted to people with scalp problems. I think it might be called scalp remedy or something like that. It's in a small brown bottle. Maybe stop by a store and test it out. It's expensive and I believe you could make your own. Don't remember all the ingredients but you could look it up. Hope this helps!

**Q: I have white hair .will this turn my hair dark ?**
A: No, shikakai used by itself does not turn white hair dark. It's only a cleanser. If you want your hair to turn dark, you will need to use amla and henna regularly. The first few applications may turn your white hair a shade of red, but as one keeps using the henna and amla mix, it will eventually turn it dark.Shikakai only cleans and nourishes hair, and doesn't color hair.

**Q: Is it applied to wet or dry hair?**
A: It is applied to dry hair. You make it as a DIY hair mask or add a little to your conditioner for “deep treatment”. There are several videos available on YouTube. Just tweak them to make them your own.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Shampoo Replacement?

So someone on tiktok recommended this a while ago and I finally got around to actually getting it. They say this and be used in replacement of a shampoo. So far I've used this twice and it definitely does clean your hair, however I would say it's more like a clarifying shampoo and a regular shampoo so I wouldn't recommend using it often if you do have a hair type that does need cleaning every couple of days. I have like 3C-4A hair texture so my hair type does not need to be washed every couple of days so I could see myself using this as I clarifying shampoo for when I do take down my protective styles. I really like it and I did fix it with hibiscus powder as well I really liked it did a really great job. It DOES take longer to clean out of your hair though! At least for the curly girls. I would recommend for sure. However with other people saying that they did have a skin reaction I would highly recommend doing a skin patch test before diving in fully.
