THE 1ST SHOP OF COFFEE PRINCEAsk sellers questions about their copySpoken language........................KoreanEnglish subtitles.........................very goodPicture quality............................very goodOST..............................................cd on AmazonReviewThis drama is about a young woman who supports her family by doing jobs that would normally only a man would get. This is because she is constantly mistaken as a man and now that is how she lives. She works endlessly to try to make her family's finances work out enough to live on for her mother and sister and herself. She is focused on making money. She does a large number of part time jobs from delivering milk, peeling chestnuts, karate class for kids to sewing eyes on stuffed animals. Unfortunately for her, her mother loves to spend money on shoes. While her sister dreams of becoming a kpop star. One day she encounters a person who snatches a purse while making deliveries. She grabs the purse and smashes the scooter she was driving. She lets the person get away as he was a young man who liked her sister even though the feelings weren't mutual. When she gives back the purse she is accused of being part of a planned theft ring by the man. He gives her a business card but refuses to pay for damages to the scooter. He really does think that this is a scam.Later she contacts him to try to collect damages for the scooter and meets him in his hotel room. Due to a funny mishap they land in a jumbled mess while he is in a bathrobe and the woman that comes there thinks he's gay. This makes him think that this is the solution to his problem he has, marriage meetings. He hires her to be his pretend gay boyfriend to deter his family's ability to force him to get married. He buys new top quality matching suits, couple outfits, for them. The contract has different prices for different levels of touching. Even pretend kissing. But what was really important to her was all meals were included, and she can eat amazing amounts of food. But she gets a shock when he kisses her for real because he's so happy that it's working and the ruler has spread about them. They will cost him big bucks. As punishment his grandmother makes him work in a coffee shop and make it a success. The first employee is her. The older man who works there knows that she's a woman. They plan is to attract women to the coffee shop with attractive male baristas. And one very hunky waffle making man. This coffee shop is now ran by attractive, flower boy, type men. And with a video made by her sister and posted online they fast become a success.Business is now such a big success and he falls in love with her. But he still thinks that she is a man. But he is even willing to consider that he might actually be gay because he loves her so much. But what will happen when he figures out that she is really a woman? Can it be kept a secret from the other employees? But will the family accept her? She has a crush on the cousin, will her feelings be returned? Will she fall in love with the boss? How long does it take to figure out that she's a woman? Will the others accept her at the coffee shop as a woman? Will the other employees figure it out first? And some of them might just like her also.CommentI loved this drama. It is very funny that it took so long to figure out that she's a woman. And the situations are crazy. But the cousin that she has a crush on has never once thought that she looked like a man. This confused her boss.I bought this set to replace a set I bought from a rummage sale at a Korean church. This is the version I originally watched and liked best. It has a bonus special features disc.THERE'S A DRAMA FOR THAT

It Deals With Sexual Attraction & Acceptance of Feelings
The main actor, as usual, picked something a little off the beaten track. Liked it. The only thing is that itis hard to believe he (and others) thought the female lead was a boy. Once you accept that as fact, however his difficulty in dealing with his attraction,, and his anger at later finding out he'd been fooled made sense. His abusive behavior because he felt like a fool made him unlikeable for awhile. However, that made it more realistic. I bought it after seeing it on Netfliks, and I bought another one for a family member.

Great series, bad dvd image quality. PMP Entertainment version.
First off, this K-Drama title, which features talents such as Yoon Eun-hye, Gong Yoo (of both "Goblin" and "Train to Busan"), and Kim Young-ok (a veteran actress who has appeared in a long list of both films and dramas), is a short but excellent rom com/drama series that, because of its mistaken gender identity plot, seems to have taken inspiration from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. Its right up there in my top ten favorites. So please understand that his review for "Coffee Prince", deals with issues with the dvd set itself. The series itself gets 5 stars. The dvd set distributed by PMP Entertainment does not. That being said, when watching on a device like the PS4, the video quality in the DVD set is really bad. The video goes from looking almost as if it was HD quality (which is strange because the series had a "film" like quality when I had viewed it in the past, on certain streaming services), to suddenly become fuzzy and pixelated. The pixilation sometimes affects actor faces and static "aura's" will sometimes appear around the actors as well. Video is also a 4:3 ratio. when viewed on same device. When viewing on a device like a Sony Blu-ray player, image is the correct ratio (fills the screen), but image quality is poor.As far as subtitling goes (I am up to the end of the second disc so far):The subtitles are also affected by the image quality, which is disappointing because of the really great translation. At least the translation has been great to this point. If that changes, I will edit this review to include that information.Even more disappointing, is the loose dvd's in the set, which resulted in scratches on discs 1 and 2.

This is the real deal
"The First Shop of Coffee Prince" is the first Korean drama I ever watched, and it's still the gold standard by which I judge all Kdramas. I watched it online several times before deciding to buy a copy.Unfortunately, there are a lot of bootlegs out there, so it's important to look for the words "authorized US edition" or "licensed product". This one is the real deal. The subtitles are good, written in standard, American colloquial English, with very few typos. The video quality is high also, at least it was on my 9-inch portable DVD player. I can't vouch for how it would on a larger screen HD or plasma tv. There are 17 episodes on 6 disks, plus one disk of extras. They came in a nice trifold box set.As for the series itself, it's a chick flick on steroids. There are at least 4 interconnected love stories, all centered around the titular coffee shop. The main story is the romance between playboy Choi Han Kyul, the 29-year old owner of the shop, and his employee Ko Eun Chae, an androgynous young woman who poses as a man to work at the all-male cafe. Eun Chae takes the job because she needs the money, but then begins to have feelings for Han Kyul. She is afraid to reveal her gender for fear of losing both her job and Han Kyul's friendship, but Han Kyul meanwhile is disturbed by his growing attraction to this "boy". While it's obvious to everyone around them what is going on, they both fight it as long as they can...An excellent ensemble cast and a good balance of humor, drama and romance make this series well worth watching. I only wish it would come down a bit in price so that more people could enjoy it. Four and a half stars.

magnifique!
