GATSBYMoving Rubber Grunge Mat 80g (Original Version)

My hair is 1-2 inches, extremely thick and I prefer the spiky look. Over the past year, I have been in search of the "perfect" hair creme/wax which provides the highest hold and a matte look. In short, there are lots of options that function very differently. To date, I have tried American Crew Fiber, D:fi D:sculpt, TIGI matte separation, Moving Rubber Spiky Edge, Moving Rubber Grunge Mat, Jonathan Dirt, Sticky Rice, TRENDStarter matte finishing wax and Eufora Hero. All of these options are priced in the same range (per oz) but each have a unique set of pros and cons. I'm still searching for the silver bullet (for my hair type and style). For Grunge Mat, here's the breakdown:What's the "actual" hold like? Very good - better than Fiber. The hold is also extremely consistent throughout the day.How easy is it to work into the hair? Very easy. Unlike other products, the color is grey. The texture is very creamy and easy to apply.How natural does the hair feel throughout the day? Somewhat unnatural. This product is in the middle regarding overall feel (relative to the other products). It's not as natural as Fiber but better than some of the cheaper options, like TIGI. I believe that this con is inherent because of the super-strong hold that you get from the product.Is the hold consistent? Yes. This particular product should last for 12+ hours before you see any loss in hold.How much do you need to get a decent hold? Not much. This product definitely gives you the biggest bang-for-your-buck regarding the amount you need to use to achieve a good hold.Does it wash out easily? Not at all. This is almost as bad as American Crew molding clay (which it comes time to wash your hair). To be fair, it's still not as bad as the worst but you may need to do 2 washes to fully-remove the product. While I was ready to settle on this particular product (for my needs), I decided to keep experimenting because of this particular con.How does it smell? Waxy and floral. The smell is slightly strong and definitely not preferable to many of the other options, like Dirt, Sticky Rice and Spiky Edge.Please see my other reviews to compare against all of the above products. Overall, this is a top contender. If you can accept the challenges associated with washing this product out and a slightly sandy texture, you may find this to be the best option out there. I don't really prefer the smell but, on the other hand, it's strong and very easy to work with. Highly recommended.

I bought this product in Tokyo having forgotten my usual TGI Bedhead. This is a brilliant product to build volume, texture and a little hold. It goes such a long way - just a smear ruffles up my hair nicely. I've bought it via Amazon a couple of times as it is not widely available and I am very pleased with the product and price point : )

The grey is always my favorite. I love the matte look with no scent. Fits very very well. Gatsby brand has many different ones..

I liked Gatsby's older version of the Matte hair wax. This version is more rubbery and attracts a lot of dust. The hold is decent and if you touch your hair, it will leave some sticky residue on your hands. This residue just stays in your hair and causes it to attract anything you walk into so be prepared for random floofs to be stuck in your hair. All in all, it has low shine and does the job.

As an Asian, I can tell you, no product is more catered to us than Gatsby. I especially like this line for it gives a nice matte look. It is super strong hold but still flexible. It also smells nice.

I've had a roughly a pixie cut for almost ten years. I've always loved the  FX Molding Wax 2 Ounce  and have used it for years even after trying different products I've gone back to it again and again almost religiously. Recently the price went up for it again so I decided I'd look again for something else. I'd been looking at colored hair waxes when this came up as an option. While heavily advertised for "men" I decided to go for it and worst case if it smelled to "man fragrant" oh well. Well I'm in love. The smell is a little different but I wouldn't call it out as being a "man" smell. It is incredible. My hair has never felt so light with so much hold and flexibility. It gives me a lot of volume in my thin hair and while I can re-shape it during the day it holds all day, all night, and doesn't feel gross either. I use a significant amount less to get my hair to do what I want it to do and it lasts. This is my new go-to. It also happens to be cheaper per ounce AND again, I use less. I'm in love.

Great hold but you now become a walking air cleaner. The hold is great for spiking my 3-4" long hair up in the air all day. The downside is that it stays tacky in your hair all day long. As a result, all debris, dust, lint, and anything else flying around your head gets stuck in your hair. I've even tried using less but it still happens. I'm going back to a more traditional hair product.

Sehr gut, auch für dünneres Haar geeignet, egal ob Kurzhaarschnitt (ca. 4-5 cm) oder längere Haare. Pro Anwendung benötigt man keine große Menge (ca. haselnussgroße Menge reicht aus), am besten nach dem Föhnen. Das Produkt riecht zudem angenehm und lässt sich leicht abwaschen.Dieses Produkt verwende ich seit Jahren und habe in der Zwischenzeit auch andere, teurere Produkte probiert, bin aber schließlich wieder auf den Gatsby Moving Rubber Grunge Mat umgestiegen, weil für mich das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis einfach paßt.Mit dem Verkäufer hatte ich bisher nur die besten Erfahrungen. Best hair wax I have ever used. I have thick black hair that I need to do a comb back or side-styling and this is by far the best combination of waxy texture with a strong hold I have ever used. Better than Gatsby Blue or Black. The matte finish looks very natural.

Cannot go wrong with Gatsby - I used the Pink one for the shorter parts of my hair but as i decided to grow it out this was the one i moved onto, the grunge mat holds very nicely, has a matte finish but is not so stiff (like gel) that you cannot run your hair through it and re-set it. definitely my fav!
