A suitable replacement for that single thin wire antenna that you're trying to replace
I was surprised to discover that Amazon didn't carry any of those single, simple, thin wires that come with FM radios. The pictured stick, however, looks like it will do the job of improving local radio signals (from a regular radio and an HD radio) without the requirement of a large, gauche, rabbit-ears or T-Shaped antenna. In case like me you were wondering exactly how the stick might fit your radio's (or television set's) antenna port, the rod part of the antenna is only several inches in length and the base has a handy "swivel" that allows the antenna to stick straight up (or down, or sideways) in relation to the radio. The antenna is not as powerful as one of the T-Shaped antennas made of 300-ohm television cable, but it's reasonably close to the single wire that it's replacing. Moreover, it fits most popular F-connector-style antenna ports and is inconspicuous. When not positioned to receive an optimal signal, the antenna tends to introduce an irritating, loud, low hum so be prepared to play with it to achieve the desired result.[Warning: conditions vary--weather, equipment, people, etc., can alter the magnetic field, lessening the effectiveness of the antenna. Currently, I'm having better success with the built-in antennae of both my Tivoli Model One and Tivoli Stereo. So I've removed the pictured external one in each case--at least for the present. But if the built-in antenna produces a fringey sound, or begins to favor the irritating "hum" that I was getting with the pictured antenna, I'll re-install the August Telescopic Antenna (an easy operation). That not working, I'm glad to see that Amazon offers a similar antenna that is expressly made for installation on Tivoli radios, tuners and receivers (at a $5 premium, it would be worth it for reliably clear audio).

Great low, cost compact antenna, but not quite big enough for a 40" TV
The antenna picks up more than 30 HDTV channels in downtown NYC, reception and sound are both clear and gnerally reliable. My only complaint is that it's so short. We tilted the antenna down so that it can receive a signal in the space between the TV and TV stand. If we tilt it up, the antenna is entirely obstructed by the TV and the wall and won't receive a signal. I suspect that if the antenna were a few inches longer it would receive more channels and more reliable reception. All in all, though, a good buy for the price.

Can't beat this price
I was actually very skeptical that this antenna would get us any channels. Once Comcast encrypted all of the digital channels we were getting for free I didn't know what we would do. Someone suggested this antenna and I never thought it would work for only $5. With the antenna we get 4 main channels: ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox -- most of them in HD -- as well as some random other channels like "livewell" and one that only shows old movies. Only a few times has the signal been scratchy, and moving the antenna around a bit usually fixes it (we do live just outside a major city, so not sure if it would work as well in a more rural area). The antenna also just screws into the back of the tv and you can't see it, so you don't have anything ugly sticking up or on a nearby wall. Overall I'm very impressed!Update: I moved and in my new location (still very close to a major city) the signal is a lot worse. It picks up many fewer channels than before and the main ones are more scratchy and go in and out much more often. Still, the antenna is definitely worth getting for only $5.

just wasn't any better than my Terk HD with rabbit ears
This antenna works, just wasn't any better than my Terk HD with rabbit ears. I honestly couldn't expect better for what this antenna is. Also, unless your coax-out jack is facing completely horizontal, this antenna will be difficult to fully extend or angle properly as most flat screens these days have jacks that either face straight down, or face down at an angle. Won't work with most TVs if using a compact wall mount as there just isn't enough clearance.

It Works, Received HD News!
Works as intended. I plugged this into the back of my projector to receive over the air channels. Be aware that this antenna pushes over the coax connection, it does not screw in like I thought it would. It doesn't extend too long surprisingly, so if you want a really long antenna don't buy this one! I like this one because the antenna won't snap in half like those silver metal ones do (it's thicker than those antennas). I do receive a couple HD news channels, so this antenna is capable of receiving HD channels if available in your area.

Works OK for what it is
Good for stations that have a good signal -- no messy cables or trying to find a place for a separate antenna. However, I recently replaced this with a Mohu Leaf antenna (basic one, no amplification) and now I can pick up even my fringe channels, and no real need for aiming the antenna. So if you have strong stations within a few miles and don't want a mess, get this telescopic antenna -- otherwise get the Leaf.

August DTA102 Extendable Telescopic TV Antenna
I've noticed that one of the reviewers said that they have a big TV and it somewhat blocks the signal. I have a 32", so, I did not experience that problem. The antenna itself is super small, basically it's a pen length. It extends 2 times making it it like 3 pen lengths or so.I had a regular rabbit ears antenna and it broke. I was looking and saw this one. At first I wasn't sure about it, to tell you the truth if it didn't have 4 reviews with either 4.5 or 5 stars overall, I probably wouldn't have looked at it at all.I like that it's so small and there are no cables, it connects directly into the input. I got about 30 channels with the rabbit ear RCA antenna and 26 channels with this one. I live in OKC area. This antenna gets all the major channels, ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC. That's really all I need. On top of those it gets PBS for my kid and CW34, there are good shows there every now and then. Everything else I watch on a computer, but it's nice to have access to some TV channels as well.Overall, I am very happy that it's so small with one less cable to hook up and it gets everything I need and then some.

Waste of money
Waste of money, it does not work. It falls out from every aerial socket (I tested in several TVs) and does not catch the signal.

For strong signal paths only! This is a small, low gain aerial and will only work reliably if a VERY strong signal is available. Aerial is 12cm long folded and just 29cm fully extended.
