Previously, Microsoft allowed users to transfer files and settings directly from one Windows PC to another across a network or using an Easy Transfer Cable. Now, in Windows 8. 1, users can only transfer data files using only external media, like an external hard drive or USB stick.Laplink PCmover ProfessionalView largerSystem RequirementsWindows 8 | 7 | Vista | XP. PCmover is not designed for migrations from newer operating systems to older operating systems. For example, we do not recommend attempting to migrate from a PC running Windows 7 to a PC running Windows XP, as doing so may render your system unstable.

For example there's this part about DEINSTALLING any version even trial versions of things like Office in the manual
I was moving from a Windows 7 machine to Windows 8. I successfully moved everything I had hoped to move including Office 2007, several Marcomedia programs and Quickbooks although I had to start a re-install on Quickbooks which just had to fix the licensing file.I am going to guess that most of the complaints I read about this product are due to people not reading the directions. For example there's this part about DEINSTALLING any version even trial versions of things like Office in the manual.By the way it took about 12 hours but I had a lot of videos that were a big part of that.

This program works
It does do most what it claims. It will move programs from one computer to another. Some programs didn't get transferred 100% and some didn't work. I am not sure what they say by being quick. My transfer took almost 6 hrs. Plus it is a one time use. It does move most of setting for windows and outlook. What made me very upset was my password program did not transfer correct. My new PC is working, but I may need to repurchase some of my programs to install.

Does a poor job of moving XP to Windows 7
I was extremely disappointed with the performance of this product when making a transfer from XP to Windows 7. I had previously used PCmover to move from one XP computer to a different XP computer and the product did a nice job. But changing to the newer OS left 145 out of 185 programs unmoved to the new machine. I would never have spent this amount of money to move about 20% of my programs. I was left with hours of work. I realize that XP and Windows 7 are not from the same Microsoft family of operating systems, so the program having problems is somewhat understandable, and Laplink warned that it might not be able to move everything in this situation, but 20% is an awfully small number for such an expensive product.

Failed Migration required re-image of PC Anyway
I recently used the product to migrate a business PC with software. After a reboot some of the migrated programs worked and others had to be re-installed. That and of itself was aggravating. However, some of the programs that required SQL Server were corrupted to such an extent, that I had to wipe and reinstall Windows 7 Pro. I made an image with Windows Files and Settings Transfer wizard and it was good thing I did as it was required to restore the system. I wont invest in this product again.

Extremelydisappointed with the product and the support
This has to be one of the worst products I've ever purchased. It was recommended to me by Dell Computers to assist in switching computers. Apparently somewhere in the fine print it indicates that this product is not to be used when switching from a SATA drive to a smaller SSD drive. This transfer actually screwed up the hard drive enough that Dell is replacing it.Their customer service is equally as dissappointing. When I called and tried to get some help on restoring the new computer the sales representative with an Indian accent told me I shouldn't have used the product and hung up on me.I will try and get a full refund from Amazon.

PCmover does not natively support backing up to image, then restore apps from that image. That's extra price.
If you want to to backup to image, as opposed to cabling the old and new computer together and doing a ONE TIME transfer, the imaging software is another $39.I recommend you DON"T do a one time xfer. Do an image back up. Then you can pick, and chose over and over your restoration.Maybe this discovery means zlink is not that more expensive since they based their whole migration off an image in the first place! On I go...

Don't waste your time and money
This was a total waste of time and money. When I couldn't get it to work, the "free" support strongly suggested that I pay $169 for them to "fix" the major problems on my old computer that were preventing the two from connecting.

Not what it's cracked up to be.
1. This product is too expensive - $49 for a one-time use simply isn't worth it for what you get.2. This product doesn't work as well as advertised - some of the applications that were transferred to the new PC simply do not work - registry values were fouled up, popups about missing dll files were experienced, etc. I was hoping to avoid this.3. I will not use PCmover again - not ever.
