TRUE FISHING
If you're a real fisherman then I'm sure that, at some time, you wanted to try hand-line fishing. If that's for you then this is the rig for you.The spool is heavy duty. Winds up easily and spools out effortlessly. Put some heavier mono or so breaded line on it so your hands don't get cut and feel the THRILL of bringing in that "big one"...ONE-ON-ONE .

not what you think
this is certainly not a hand rig you would want to catch a gator with it's a super soft plastic that this is made of you could bend it to shit. god help us all to find a real gator reel. amen.

sturdy
We have been using these for several months and they are holding up very well. If you have never fished with Yo-Yo's for bottom fish, you need to try it. You can't beat the sensitivity of holding the line in your hand and able to use heavy line. It is a win, win.

Warning: this is NOT a 9 inch reel
The inside diameter is 6.5 inches. The outside diameter (measuring the rim) is 8 inches on the smaller rim and 8.5" on the larger rim. Line could not be placed on the reel past the diameter of the smaller 8" rim and I doubt anyone would put enough line on it to even get near that point. This item, which I purchased from Amazon in 2011 under another product name, was properly advertised as a 6.5 inch reel at that time and it's still sold at Amazon as such. Now, on the page I unwittingly used, it is advertised as a 9 inch reel, and that's why I bought it - to get a 9 inch reel.In summary: I now have two 6.5 inch reels, one properly advertised and one not properly advertised.

serves it's purpose
I bought this to try hand fishing and not look like I'm desperate for survival. But after I actually have it I realized that doesn't matter and a used water bottle serves just as well. Not trashing the product; it protects the tackle better. But if your going to fish Cuban yoyo style think about it.

9 Inch HANDHELD FISHING REEL from Gator Buckets
This 9 Inch handheld fishing reel from Gator Buckets is a good bit bigger than other Cuban Reels I have looked at and will hold more than enough line and deliver better casts than the smaller reels. It cost me only $6.18 each and only a total of $12.36 for Two, delivered free from Red's Gear, the only seller that carried this larger reel for hand fishing. I'll keep mine in the truck and one on the boat for dropping a line in easy and effortlessly when I just happen onto a water that needs fishing. Some channels and canals hold fish, as to bridges and other restricted access areas and you don't always need a long pole for casting in these different bodies of water. This reel will hold plenty of line for swing casting from the boat or the edge of the creek, where brush or overhead stuff, would make a cast hard with a long pole. You can even throw the sinker and hook overhand to get it into the water with one of these reels. Give it a try, but don't expect observers to look at you with distain of you gear. When someone sees me using this rig with a slide sinker and a bead or two, they want to know where they can get one. I recommend a 10 inch leader with a bead above, that stops the sinker slide just above a snap swivel. With a bite, the fish will take line, telling you he is there taking the bait. Use a circle hook, sized for the size of fish you expect and the hook removal will be easier! That's it. I like it.

Five Stars
Looks great for occasional hand lining. The large 9" size, looks plenty large, for a good cast.Feels strong enough to handle any 10-20 LBs fish.I very nice Cuban Yo-Yo reel

Not so great for long term use
product was delivered quickly but was made in a press mold and have this weird flaking after a week of use, witch causas my fishing line to be disturbed when i cast out.
