TilleyT5 Unisex Cotton Duck Hat (Khaki, 7 1/2)

I got my first Tilley Hat when I was overseas in Africa with the Army. I traded my UN beret for one (Canadian Officer) and I fell in love with them. When I got home, I picked one up at a local sporting goods store and then found myself with 3 of them, all the T3 model. Well, here I am, buying a T5 model because I wanted one to wear when I go out shopping with my wife and the T3 has a very wide brim and the T5 is narrower on the side. I love these hats and they last a long, long, long time. I still have my first one from Africa and I got it in 1993. Still going strong. Highly recommended. BTW, they have a lifetime warranty and you just send it what is left and they will replace it, no questions asked.

These hats are top drawer quality. The T-5 has a stiff brim to provide a neat look. It's water resistant enough to protect from rain, sheilds from the sun, floats if somehow dropped overboard and is guaranteed for life. And this was offered at a great price because it was a return. Love it.

The hat is like all from Tilley - well made and comfortable. Size was right on and it's now my 'go to' hat for walking and working in the yard.

I feel like one of the people in the cute Tilley promotional stories. I admired one of these hats worn by a Canadian colleague when I was doing graduate field research in 1990. When I asked, she raved about it. In the subsequent twenty years, I went through numerous kinds and brands of field hats before finally forking over the bucks for a Tilley T5. This is the real thing. The brim does not flap or droop in the wind, and the front-and-back cords keep it from blowing away even in a gale. It keeps off a light rain, and doesn't mind getting wet. The dark underside of the brim reduces reflected glare, and while it can get warm in the desert or when you are working hard, I haven't yet wanted to trade it for anything lighter. It crushes flat for packing, and stretches right back into shape when you pull it out of your bag or pack. I measured my head according to Tilley's instructions, and that size of hat fits me perfectly. Don't spend two decades messing around with a series of mediocre alternatives, like I did. Just buy one of these now. You won't be disappointed, and won't ever need another hat for work or recreation outdoors.UPDATE: I bought this hat in 2010 and wore it virtually every day I was outside through 2016 (yes, it took a while for me to get around to writing the review above, but by then I was well informed by experience). It got soaked in sweat, blasted by the sun, and hand-washed countless times. The cotton cloth finally started to fall apart. It developed a growing hole, and during its last wash, tore badly. I was very sorry to see it go, but really cannot fault the hat after over six years of hard use. Tilley advertises that they will replace the hat if it ever wears out; just mail the remains to them with $8.50 postage for the replacement. They mean it. I got my new replacement in six days, no questions asked. That is old-school integrity worthy of respect.

This is my seventh Tilley hat. Each has performed admirably. Why seven? A gust of Caribbean wind stole one off the deck of a catamaran. One wore out after five years of daily use - which Tilley replaced at a nominal cost. I gave my grandson one, to celebrate our relationship when we vacation together. I bequeathed one to my franchise group when I retired, to symbolize my “continued attendance” at future meetings. I continue to use my winter model on cold New England days. And I reserve my pristine white Tilley for special occasions.Perhaps I will be buried in a Tilley.

Love the hat and the sun protection I get with it

It is a Tilley hat which means it is great quality however I wish I gotten one a little larger.

Use this all the time outside. The wide brow helps keep you cool and protects well against the sun. Have even used in rain and works great.

An excellent hat to keep the sun out of your eyes as well as protecting your head from the harmful rays. The air holes near the top help with keeping your head cool.
