Excellent transaction
The DVD arrived in a timely fashion. Loved the human touch of the address label. The media was exactly as described and the documentary was a lovely blast to the past. Would definitely purchase from this seller again!

A wonderful personal tour
I loved this little documentary. Philip Johnson was 88 when it was made. He is like an eccentric gay uncle as he dodders around his New Canaan estate, often with long-time partner David Whitney in tow, showing you the various buildings constructed over the years on the property. The tour culminates in the last one, a sort of deconstructivist sculpture inspired by artist Frank Stella (who makes a cameo), completed in 1995. And I love that he clears up the issue of "balling" in the Glass House early in his commentary. A hoot!

Great documentary, but short in length for price.
Essential movie for all Philip Johnson fans. Very expensive, but since I haven't been able to visit the Glass House in New Canaan, CT, I dug deep and bought it. I wish it were longer in length (just 50 minutes plus with no bonus features), but it was edited well enough to cover all buildings on his property as well the thought process. DVD shows the glass house, the lakeside pavilion, the painting gallery, the sculpture gallery, the studio, the office, a climbing tower/folly and a wonderful building designed by Frank Stella used as a "sanctuary"- this building itself being a giant sculpture. Just a great doc, but a bit short in length for the price.

Great Documentary for art lovers.
Touring the Philip Johnson estate has been on my list for a long time. I hope I get to see it in person one day. But for now, this documentary will do nicely. The Glass House and out buildings are just stunning.

Great insight from the man himself
Great insight from the man behind it all! I watched this doc the day after I had the pleasure and privilege of touring the 49 acres in New Canaan! I highly recommend it.

Entertaining & Informative
I bought this DVD to prepare myself for a visit to the Glass House. It had everything I wanted to know about the Glass House plus the other buildings on Johnson's estate. It also documents Philip Johnson's wry humor and gives insights into his personality that are so necessary to understand his work. Very well done!

Philip Johnson at his best!
Johnson, the brillant architect that he was, is at his best in the "Eccentric Architect." Entertaining, engaging and informative, this DVD shows the human side of Johnson and how his extrordinary life shaped his rich architectural legacy.
