Several errors in math symbols.
THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE FIFTH (5th) EDITION only of this study guide. I ordered 15 of these study guides for students that were not familiar with Algebra. After receiving the books, but before distributing them to the students, I noticed several errors in the math symbols used in the book. Hoping for a quick resolution, I contacted LearningExpress asking if they had a correction sheet that I could pass to the students. I was given a case number, but because I was in a hurry I decided to go through the study guide myself and print a list of the errors. It appears the errors were primarily errors in proofreading; however, they were many, and they would be confusing to students trying to learn Algebra. I should have sent all the books back, but I didn't have time to reorder.Errors in the book included:1) Using quotation marks in place of the "less than or equal to" symbol. This occurred on at least 16 pages throughout the book , oftentimes with multiple errors on each page. (See pages 17 and 23 for examples of the error.)2) Using a modified square root symbol for a division symbol. This occurred on 3 pages (17, 23, 24), sometimes with multiple errors on each page;3) Using a box placeholder picture instead of an "x" to represent multiplication (pages 21, 22);4) Using an up arrow symbol to represent the "not equal to" symbol (pg 67).5) The only wrong answer I have found after going through the Pretest and the first five chapters was Question #41 on the Pretest. The correct answer is "3" and it's not one of the options.I was surprised at the number of errors, given this is the Fifth (5th) Edition. The errors would certainly confuse students, especially those just learning (or relearning) Algebra. Maybe I purchased the only study guide that contains these mistakes, but I doubt it. Most all the errors appear to be publishing errors that could have been caught with a careful proofreading of the text by a person familiar with math.I rated it 2 stars because the pages without errors appear to be helpful. However, I wouldn't buy the books again unless the errors are corrected in a new edition, and then only after a thorough review, perhaps at a local retail store. I have passed these errors to EBSCO Support, the company with whom I was placed in contact.

A great book for tuning up your algebra skills
I bought this to tune up my daughter for starting algebra II. The school district used a truly awful Algebra text book in middle school for Algebra I. When she tested for algebra placement in high school she bombed. So, over the summer I had her work through this book. Her comment was that this made learning Algebra easy and wondered why the school didn't use this inexpensive and clearly better book. I didn't have a good answer for that. She took Algebra II without any issue, while several of her friends either had to retake algebra I (again using that awful text book) or struggled with Algebra II. My daughter had little trouble with algebra after tuning up her skill with this book.I heartily recommend this book.My son is in middle school and will be taking Algebra I this fall (again using the same awful text book). So, we've had him work though the book this summer. He's found the concepts easy and has had no problem working though the book. I'm hoping this will proactively deal with the issues we had with the current district text book.

True to its title! Awesome...
The author actually includes each step of an equation, explaining in plain English, how to solve algebraic problems. Unlike other books (including many that claim to help those who who have problems understanding math), this one really does enlighten you by moving at a low enough pace so that you fully master each step before moving onto the next. The answer key is in the back so you can check your answers before moving onto the next section. The language is easy to understand, the mathematical terms are explained, and there are many problems to solve in each chapter, giving you tons of practice before moving on. I highly recommend this book to anyone who struggles with algebra. You won't once you have finished this book.

Condition of the book is misleading
If I could give zero I would. I bought this product in Used-Good condition and it should have been listed in Used-Fair/Poor. Alot of the pages problems are done already. Which would be fine but some one didn't correct wrong answers in pen. Oh and the kicker is someone ripped all the answer keys out. Thanks I can get passed the pen and the pencil answers but I kinda need the answer key...

Awesome tutorial
As a classroom teacher I have used these books again and again for kids who need extra practice and remedial tutorials.
