AVOID!
Strange cover choices, and some of his interpretations are truly god-awful! Avoid unless a completest!

this is not a great Bryan Ferry album
this is not a great Bryan Ferry album, except for the excellent title track. however, we had a wonderful time silly-dancing around the living room to some of his bombastic covers. the item quality was totally fine.

... buying this -nostalgia - a few gems in here like Hard Rain
I remember from my youth Bryan Ferry playing hard rain in a video clip and his shirt kept changing from cut to cut - that was the sole basis ofmy buying this -nostalgia - a few gems in here like Hard Rain, and piece of my heart - they are worth the album alone, and a few misses as well - I will let you identify them but its all good fun.

The Best Cover Album...
With all the great cover albums out there (Rock and Roll John Lennon, Pinups David Bowie, etc.) I think this is my favorite. Great from start to finish.

The Start of a Great Solo Career
"These Foolish Things" is an absolute blast of an album - Bryan is obviously having a great time in the studio recording it. For the first but not the last time he improves on an original song with his version of Dylan's "A Hard Rains A-Gonna Fall", and although the same can almost be said for the title track "These Foolish Things", of all the many versions by various artists, only Billie Hollidays probably just shades it - though it is Bryan's that sticks in my mind. "River Of Salt" is a beautiful little song that resonates with it's simplicity and is equally beautifully performed. Bryan at his most 'camp' can be found singing "It's My Party" and "Baby I Don't Care"; there is a decent version of the Stones' "Sympathy For The Devil" and Smokey Robinson's heart felt "Tracks Of My Tears". The energy of "Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever" and "Don't Ever Change" are addictively charming, and the efforlessly listenable "You Won't See Me" is a great little track which stays with me long after the album is off the player. "I Love How You Love Me" has Bryan totally relaxed performing this great little song, while "Piece Of My Heart" and "Don't Worry Baby" make up the other songs on this delightful album.I believe the remastering is not quite up to the standard of the other BF or RM releases and although the sleeve contains lyrics to the songs, there are some errors e.g. a lot of lyrics are missing from the title track which is a shame. But you would buy this album for a great listen, and Bryan delivers as always.

When Bryan still had a sense of humour
I think Bryan Ferry's first covers album and first foray into the sort of crooning style that has become his mainstay since Roxy Music. This is real 1970's stuff - tub thumping drums and production but all done with love and affection as well as tongue in cheek. It actually sounds like real people are playing on it. It's nothing like as smooth as his later solo work, but there are several outstanding numbers. Hard Rain is possibly definitive and his version These Foolish Things is transporting: one of my favourite songs, period. Great, fun album

Remastered Edition UK FERRYCD1
It’s not about comparisons to the originals. Bryan Ferry takes ready-made songs like Warhol took ready -made images, translates them via his own style, and then presents them as an album like Warhol would present an exhibition of screen prints.Sound is excellent on this remaster. “Sympathy For the Devil” just doesn’t work at all (even as a re-stylised ready-made), but the rest of the tracks work really well as an album.

His cover versions have never been bettered
I bought this on vinyl back in the 1970s and it still remains one of my favourite Bryan Ferry LPs. Brilliant updates of classic crooner songs, 1960s pop and soul, and Bob Dylan and Rolling Stones compositions. Ferry's versions of These Foolish Things and A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall have never been bettered.

It is good to become re-acquainted with this well love album
This was bought to replace a well used vinyl copy of this album It did not say that it was remastered, but, it had the clarity and separation of sound that felt as though it had. Nice to become aquainted with this as I find it difficult to realise that I first bought this over forty years ago

Still cool after all these years...
I first bought this album in 1973 when it first came out and it is still being played in my house today. Every track is a winner and Ferry has chosen the covers so well from such a wide range of sources that obviously influenced him - The Beatles, Motown/Smokey Robinson, Dylan, The Beach Boys, Rolling Stones etc. - but still manages to bring a fresh interpretation to them so they don't sound dated even now. You can take one song and trace it back to it's original version and, assuming you've never heard stuff by them before, you open up whole new panaromas of music. And the front cover pic is cool epitomised - I've been wishing I looked that good ever since

No Roxy at all?
Bryan Ferry wrote most of the songs for Roxy Music, but it seems there was still work left that he could not play with the band. Some originals on this album, but lots of covers, and wonderful ones, even though one could have thought that the definitive versions of those had been recorded before, which Bryan ferry proves not to be true.
