Well built but with potential limitation for older computer
I used this as a replacement in an older computer. The power supply works well and is quiet enough for my needs. The only issue that I would not is that the molex connectors are limited to two, so if you are still using multiple PATA drives, you may need to purchase a "Y" connector to expand one of the existing leads. For SATA connections, this is not an issue.

So far, so good
I bought this to replace the erratic supply in my 7 year old, generic, mail-order computer. My criteria was the low price and the mostly positive reviews here at Amazon. It's been a couple of months now, and it's running like a champ. It's not the quietest power supply on Earth - but as quiet as most. You hear the fan whirring, but I've had louder on surplus Dell's I've owned.)I've tested this with both the Warp Speed utility that came with my Biostar motherboard and a couple of freeware diagnostic programs. They agree: it's running fine.Five Stars.

You get what you pay for (and not in a good way).
I was a little leery when I took it out of the box, since the ATX Power Supply I was replacing had nicely dressed cables (with the cables wrapped in a protective sleeve), and on this one they were just “there.” But my old PS died, and I didn’t want to spend a fortune to replace it, so I went cheap. And this is definitely a case of you get what you pay for.Warranty is one year from date of purchase. Mine just died after 55 weeks (with maybe 1000 hours on it). Manufacturer’s website claims that the MTBF for the V-400 is 100,000 hours. So I should still have 99% life left ??Since it was past the one year point it was not looking good for a replacement. But I thought, what the heck, let’s call Amazon and see what their Customer Service could do. Maybe there was a recall I didn’t know about. Maybe the manufacturer would honor it since I was so close to it still being covered. They tried, but all they could do in the end is give me a phone number to reach Coolmaxusa, as well as an email address. They also gave me the number to the vendor that I purchased it from.So I called the coolmaxusa number they gave me (in area code 909) — it was “No longer in service.” The number they gave me is the same number that appears in the “Statement of Limited Warranty” that’s on coolmaxusa website in section 3, “Procedure for Warranty Service,” so Amazon CS gave me what they thought was a good number.I then called the vendor that I purchased it from, using the number provided by Amazon CS. Better luck here, as that phone number worked. They said that there was little that they could do, since their records show that it was sold and shipped by Amazon. Again, the vendor’s CS rep was very polite, and very helpful. She even stayed on the line with me to look for a place on the manufacturer’s website to initiate a warranty request, which was way beyond what I expected. Five stars for the vendor’s CS Rep!Back to the manufacture, CoolMaxUSA. I’ve tried multiple times to enter something in their website asking for help at “Email to Support,” but it keeps throwing some error every time I hit the submit button. Maybe it’s because I’m using an ipad, but hey, I can’t do it on my computer because the Power Supply is BAD !!Long story longer, don’t waste your time going cheap. I’ve already invested almost 3 hours today trying to get this sorted out, and I’m no closer than when I started.o Maybe if I would’ve purchased the protection plan for a couple of extra bucks, a replacement would already be on the way here.o Maybe I should have listened to the other comments about their PS’s dying after a short time.o Maybe I should stop trying to keep an 8+ year old machine alive, and just bite the bullet and buy a new one? Still plan to do that, but I really need this one running to prep it for data transfer.Bottom line, if you buy this particular ATX PS, don’t expect it to be a problem-free purchase.

Good for its price and No noisier than a Dell
I bought this power supply to replace/upgrade the one in my mid-tower Dell PC. Its a good stock replacement. Installation was simple. No surprises. Cable length was fine and I had enough plugs for my extra components.I see several complaints about noise, but I'm not sure what people were expecting at this price. I haven't noticed any difference in noise between this power supply and my old one. You can pay more for quieter if that's important to you.

Does work, but may be loud.
I've seen mixed feedback about the Coolmax V-400, and I unfortunately now side with the negative reviews and comments. The unit I got does in fact work as advertised, with the exception of the fan noise. When powered on at all, the 80mm fan in this PSU drowns out any other sound from my machine. I actually can't hear my stock case fans at all and can only barely hear my GPU when it's under load. It is seriously as loud as two 120mm fans running at full speed.I can't claim every unit is like this, but the power supply I received is, and others can confirm this noise issue as well. This is the only reason I knocked off 2 stars. I bought this without the slightest idea it would be loud, and I have been disappointed in its volume. The V-400 still gets 3 stars because otherwise it performs as advertised.Honestly, if you need a power supply around 400w, I'd recommend Corsair's cx430. It has all the same certification and protection under a good name with great performance.

Risky, but works
This thing is ugly, uncertified, and probably not a good choice for high-end systems, but if you're looking at this price range in the first place, that's not why you're here. For the price, this thing works well - I've found it to be surprisingly reliable so far. It tends to run cool and quiet with my Athlon-based A320 build, and it features a decent number of connections to power more peripherals than my board can fit. Overall I'm quite happy with it.

Works great. very quiet.
My computer power supply was shocked by a bare wire attached to my speaker that the dog had chewed on and I immediately ordered this. Had it in 2 days and had it all hooked up in less that 5 minutes and my computer running again. I saw in previous reviews where people said it was loud, and I haven't had that problem at all. it is much more quiet than my previous one. I honestly don't hear it at all. I would recommend this to people I know.
