This bulb does not come with a plastic shield over the glass, but the plastic shield seems to be a useless component for a bulb that does not come in contact with, in sight of, or can result in glass affecting anything that could be damaged in the rare event a bulb should break. After almost a year of continuous illumination, this bulb is still going strong, with only barely discernable metal oxide shading on the interior of the bulb. The original bulb that came with the Bio-Shield unit showed similar oxide deposition after one year of continuous illumination. Effectively eliminates growth causing musty odor during cooling season, so it's still working after over 9 thousand hours use.

I noticed my A/C UV sterilize bulb was out one day (no more blue glow around mount). This was the number in that unit, so I replaced with this. It fit fine. The only issue is the one I had before was covered with a plastic tube; maybe for safety somehow? But this plugged right in, turned on (DON"T LOOK AT IT) and I'm working again.

These bulbs are getting harder to find. If I knew then what I know now I would not have installed the system. I have better results using a steamer (not cleaner - steamer) on the carpets every other week.

Received my bulb yesterday, which was broken. Should have expected that to happen.
