The 3M sticker is pre applied to the back, but it comes off easily. I ordered these steel anchor plates to work with the J-B Weld SteelStik epoxy to secure an expensive laptop. (other anchor plates I found had the wrong metal, example: chrome - too smooth, etc)

Bought these for my husband that works out in the public with his computer. Gives him a level of confidence that it would be much harder to just grab and go to steal it.

The product can be adapted to be a useful laptop security device for Kensington-style security cables, but is not secure as delivered.I knocked off one star because the product description does not disclose that it uses a gummy adhesive that is easy to defeat with a razor blade. I knocked off another star because of the work required to remove this adhesive and replace it with an epoxy adhesive.Two good things about the product: It is made of steel rather than weaker aluminum, zinc or plastic, and the paint is durable and not removed by solvents like acetone. I couldn’t find any competitive product that was made of steel.The security plates come with a gummy adhesive that doesn’t harden. So, it will stay soft and can be easily sliced with something like a razor blade. Moreover, the adhesive seems to be similar to that used on velcro adhesive strips, which I use to hold an external SSD drive to the lid of my laptop. The laptop lid and SSD drive get warm enough to loosen this adhesive and the drive often falls off the lid. If this security plate has a comparable gummy adhesive, it will weaken with this kind of heat and become easy for a thief to remove, even without a razor blade.I scraped the adhesive off with a razor blade and cleaned the surface with acetone. Then, I mixed some two-part epoxy adhesive and used it to glue the steel plate to my laptop lid. I wiped the excess epoxy off with a paper towel that had acetone in it. The acetone cleans off the resin, and fortunately didn’t damage the paint on the security plate.
