Very good product at a very good price!
The Portable Water Filter Bag - 0.1 Micron Filter Straw with Collapsible Bag. Sold by the good folks with the awesome customer service at Survival Hax.You know, if you’re camping way out or, like some folks I could name, lean towards survivalist traits then, at some point, you’ve thought about how to make water safe to drink. It’s an important subject that, ultimately, could easily end up being the difference between life and death. There are a Lot of ways to do it: Various Filtration Systems, Water Purification Tablets and Liquids, Potassium Permanganate, Bleach and good old fashioned Boiling. There are also Purification systems but a true purification system can be seriously expensive and it’s only added value would basically be to remove certain chemicals and heavy metals.Survival Hax’s Portable Water Filtration Bag uses what appears to be Microfiltration Filter and that is a good, reliable way to go. It has a pore size of approximately 0.1 micron (pore size ranges vary from 0.05 micron to 5 micron, so 0.1 is pretty darned good) and that means that anything larger than 0.1 microns is going to be filtered out. You may ask yourself: What is larger than 0.1 microns that I need to worry about? Well… Giardia Lamblia, Cryptosporidium Parvum, Salmonella, E. Coli, Proteus mirabilis (also is found commonly in tap water), Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) and pretty much all other forms of Staph come to mind. Make no mistake…many of these can and will kill you quite dead, quite quickly. The thing is, a 0.1 micron filter is going to mean that generally you just aren’t going to have to worry about protozoa or bacterium. That doesn’t mean you don’t have to worry about viruses however, which is why anyone in their right mind will use a combo method to clean water they are going to drink. Personally, I prefer either boiling or bleach – both of which do an excellent job at taking care of viruses. I actually lean towards bleach because everyone know bleach can wipe out DNA and a virus is basically a bit of RNA wrapped in a protein sheath…incredibly susceptible to bleach.Microfilters also do not remove certain chemicals or heavy metals. But most affordable easily portable solutions simply can’t do that. Mainly because, lead for instance, is about 6,000 times smaller. It takes a pretty advanced piece of equipment to effectively address that…no matter what anyone might advertise. To test this product I collected tap water samples and water samples from Hampton Lake, Florida. Under a microscope the lake water was actually pretty decent for surface water and the tap water, which is drawn from a well, was really good…though not perfectly clean. After running the lake water through the filter it (and it was cool to see it go from slightly yellow tinted to clear during that process), I took another look…then repeated to process again to make sure of what I was seeing – because it was pretty much equal to the tap water. Very clean. But, the proof is in the pudding, so to speak, so the big test was yet to come.I considered tricking my fishing buddy into drinking from it but he’s a big guy, heavily armed and I could end up in a bad situation if I were to trick him into catching, say, dysentery. So, calculating that it was better to risk getting sick as opposed to get shot, I drank 16 ounces of lake water after it had been filtered through the Portable Water Filter Bag. With no chemicals added to it and no boiling. Drinking it, I have to admit, it tasted pretty much like well water. I am asking you – Please do not do this at home, use a combo method…I know how to use a microscope and have worked for the Dept of Health, am very well versed in Infectious Disease and used to check water specimens in the military. I had also read the water reports for North Florida and the specific lake I was drinking from…So me doing this and not worrying about viral infection is probably not the same as You doing it and not worrying about a viral infection, ok?After that there was nothing to do but wait. At 20 minutes I wasn’t showing any signs of food poisoning, so I went on about my business. At 24 hours I was fine. At 48 I was fine. Six Days later, I am still fine…But at 48 hours I was already sold on the Portable Water Filter Bag by Survival Hax.It’s light, easy to transport, simple to use and inexpensive. It has a long lifespan, a filter that can be used with other containers and is easy to clean. Based on my testing I would put forth that, regarding portable microfiltration systems, this product is as effective as possible, it is far more affordable than a lot of other similar products and it is very easy to use.I’d recommend it on performance alone but that wouldn’t be fair…when you purchase a product you expect the seller to provide you with the product quickly, efficiently and politely. Which is the Other reason I recommend this product – because Survival Hax ships quickly, they package well and they Communicate (very politely) with their customers! I can tell you the name of at least one of their staff off the top of my head – these folks got it together, provide good products and excellent customer service. Whenever I need similar products I check to see if Survival Hax has them for sale because both my Get Home Bag and my SHTF bags have most certainly got a place for their products!

Excellent for Hiking, or the End of The World! Stock up!
I am all for this. You never know when you might have to find water, from a not so good source. I went hiking last week and found the perfect opportunity to try this. I came across a stream. It did take me a little more than 30 minutes to actually try it, but I am glad I did. It was a little slow going at first but once the water was in the filter and flowing through I was able to drink the water. The color of the water might not be the clearest, but there is no taste to the water, where I am sure there was something of a taste before the filter.Do make sure you have completely dried out the filter before you put it in the bag.Package contents:1 x Water Filter Straw1 x Collapsible Portable Water Bag1 x Fire Starter FlintSpecs:Filtration Capacity: 1000 liters (264 gallons) <------- This is awesome! (remember to let the filter and bag dry before you store them. Also I suggest a holder for your filter while your not using it, something with hard sides. A backpack is a tough place for things that are not so sturdy.)Flow Rate: 600 ml/minVolume: 16 ouncesSize: 10.6 * 4.7 inches when in useWeight: .09 pounds (45 grams)Filter Pore Size: 0.1 Microns

Perfect Water Filter Bug out Bag!
For all of you hikers, bikers, runners, campers, etc. This is a great product! You never know when you are going to run out of water and need to get it from an unclean source. This water filter bottle will filter up to 300 gallons of contaminated water. It removes 99.9999% of the waterborne parasites and bacteria. It will eliminate all particles larger than .1 microns. That is pretty small! There are no replacement parts needed and it meets EPA drinking water standards. The filter screws directly onto any standard 28mm bottle which makes it even more convenient. It is very light weight. It folds down very compact and will easily fit into a backpack or even a waist belt.I am very skeptical about things like this, especially something telling me I can drink contaminated water. I was VERY hesitant to try. But, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it does indeed work. This is a welcomed item to my growing camping and hiking gear. #survivalhax
