Hand forged axe head with mark of blacksmith and serial number. Body of axe head made from mild steel. Bit made from electro-flux remelting alloy steel 40ХН2МА-Ш (C - 0.4%, Mn ~ 0.6%, Ni ~ 1.5%, Cr ~ 1.5%, Mo ~ 0.25% ) with rated content of harmful impurities. US analogue - 4340 alloy steel. Body of axe head made from whole piece of steel. Eye - punched. Bit welded into body of axe head by using forge welding. Blade of axe head quenched in oil. After that - low temperature tempering (210º С) (410º F). Sharpening angle ~ 30 degrees. Shape of sharpening - slightly expressed lens. Eye slightly expands upward. It provides reliable fastening of the handle after wedging. Axe head oxidized and covered with mixture of beeswax and linseed oil. Blade thickness ~ 7 mm ( 0 9⁄32 in )
