They don't, they're fully elastic. My son (who is very thin) loves them!

Bought for my 10 y old grandson in size 10. He is average height and weight. Overall it did fit well, but would have liked the shirt and shorts longer. The shorts definitely could be a few inches longer. If the set is for a larger build child, I would get a bigger size if available.

My kid is skinny too, but very tall. He is almost 14. I’ve got him 14/16 size and it fits perfectly around the waist. Just measured his shorts - they are around 28” in waist.
