In this book, Barry Long spells out his vision of human sexuality, its failings, and the ways in which we can restore it to its original divinity. While influenced by tantra, this book is completely different than many other 'manuals' for sacred sexuality. Long is clear, concise, and at times quite blunt as he lays out both the obstacles to sexual union and the methods to overcome them. He is never overly technical, which I greatly appreciated in reading this book. The material is presented in a grounded and matter-of-fact way, but also with respect and a deep spiritual understanding.If you are looking for a book that focuses on 'techniques' (i.e. breathwork, positions, mantras, etc.) this is certainly not the book for you. Long in several places argues that the majority of tantric teachers espouse practices that do little more than excite the body--and his message is completely the opposite. It is not about exciting the body, but about bringing consciousness into it. It is about gently and gradually removing the emotionality and attachment out of the sexual act, so that the true consciousness behind the union can begin to emerge. While this is certainly no easy feat, in this book Barry Long delivers a clear and unique roadmap to opening the heart and bringing consciousness into sexuality.

This book is interesting and gave a inspiring perspective that matched some of my own experiences. Although the author is reeeally on a spiritual trip that led him to write a delusional introduction about angels and halos. I took it as a metaphor and got a lot out of his theories on how people should practice to focus on a real experience, lived in the present and awareness of the other. This book is important in a media and consumption saturated time where people are too distracted from the pleasures reality already can provide for them. It teaches empathy and especially young people who, nowadays, are consuming porn at a very young age should get in touch with these other perspectives.

I received this book in audio form when I was 30 years old. My whole system went "yes" to what Barry said and I never looked back. I have lived my life according to this teaching for 25 years now and it has changed me totally as a woman (and I was blessed to have a partner who could hear it and apply it). I can speak from first hand experience of having put this teaching into application (together with the rest of Barry's teaching) and I give you my my word, if you live it, everything he says is TRUE. It takes discipline, one pointed commitment and no compromise from both partners. If you live it it will change you fundamentally to what you are as a man or woman behind the cultural sexual ignorance and persona. As a woman, you will discover a profundity within yourself your mind cannot imagine. I write this review from the heart and gratitude to have been blessed with having received this information, having the intuition to trust it, the fortitude to live it and been blessed with a partner who could live it too. This is a book of Truth, nothing less. If you can hear it and apply it, it will change you in a way you cannot imagine. If it was up to me, I would make sure every young woman and man approaching puberty would receive an edition of this book. It is the sexual education our society sorely lacks.

I don't think I've ever read something so raw. So undeniably true and to the point. I feel like more of a man of character and responsibility and compassion having just read this book.No book has jarred me thus since I was 18 and read Zen Mind, Beginners Mind. I'm a 30 something divorced guy who became utterly confused and even contemptuous towards the opposite sex. Talk about lying in the bed you've made!If you are a man or woman that can stand up to constructive criticism this book will make you laugh as you blush and fluster you as you recall your past foibles. But hark! The world is made anew through understanding :)

Barry Long is perhaps one of the few enlightened beings that has existed on earth. We must look to him for guidance or else we’ll remain lost in a sex obsessed world. If you want to experience heaven on earth, peace on earth, love on earth here and now, read this book. Read it with an open mind as you will feel his every word touch every corner of your body and mind.

This teaching is simple and to the point, which is of great benefit when it regards the matter of reframing one's entire perspective on love. It's more than worth the money. You'll be sure to read it many times over the years.

I wish I had read this book in my 20s, it would have changed my life a lot earlier. When sex is discussed, it's often about how to please your partner etc. and there is so much (deep down) disappointment especially from women in their sex lives (even if they enjoy sex, there is often something missing). I thoroughly recommend this. It's about being fully present at all times, something which many people never are during sex.

I was aware, and had some experience of "slow sex" before buying this book. The idea is very appealing. Unfortunately Barry Long seems to me to be a deeply deranged individual : his view of women strikes me as sexist and he has a fundamentalist religious attitude to pretty much everything. Once he'd told me that the universe was only a few thousand years old I closed the book.Maybe some people would be able to deal with his style as aphoristic metaphore... but I was repulsed.

Although this book was published in 1998 I heard about it only a short while ago. For me it was an extremely helpful book in finally understanding why things are how they are when it comes to relationships. Barry Long elaborates on what is wrong and how we can achieve propper love making. One of the conditions is to love the female and not use her or even abuse her. For all of those who want to stick to the commonly accepted way, which is pornographie plus a sugar coating of romantics that we know from novels and films, don't bother to read it.
