A practical parenting advise
Seeing the harsh 1-star reviews I am saddened by the definitive negative statements of readers born of their ignorance of the author. I feel the need to clarify a couple of things: I have always liked Andrew Murray (and his contemporary Charles Finney). In order to understand this book, it would help to have some background on the author- a preacher of Wesleyan- Armenian persuasion, who lived in the XIX and early XXc in South Africa. Once you understand what that means all will be easier to digest. Once you pass the first several pages, you will see the wisdom of the man, and the applicability of his methods of raising a child. I hope that the reader would give it a fair chance without prejudice. Another good book by Andrew Murray is Humility, I would highly recommend it also. Blessings

Difficult and meandering
With a 2016 publish date, it sounded very pretentious.Turns out it was written over 100 years ago. I suppose once you get past that, it isn't too bad.A lot of philosophical / theological musings. I'm not sure about the theology either.Wasn't able to finish. I like something more straightforward.

Great book for biblical parenting!
Andrew Murray is a classic Christian author. I love the updated version of this How to Raise Children for Christ book as it is easier to read and follow. Most of your parenting books spend a lot of time discussing and focusing on the behavior of the children. This book is a bit different, as the focus is placed on the relationship of the Parents walk with God. The premise is based in biblical truth to encourage parents that - if we are walking daily and closely with the Lord, we will be able to follow His guidance as we teach our children. Children then learn first hand that leaning on God for day to day things, as well as big things - spending time with Him and nurturing that relationship is the foundation for the parent/ child relationship too. If everyone has their eyes on Jesus, things have a tendency to go a lot better. This is one of those parenting books that everyone should read (preferably before having kids) :) It's a great book for biblical parenting.Although it addresses some deep spiritual issues, this updated version is easy enough for anyone to follow. Parents can read daily inspiration about their own faith, learn how to apply it to parenting their children, and access daily prayers to help implement the ideas and live out their faith. I have the eBook version and have read most of the way through it. I look forward to backing up and digging in a little deeper. The book is full of biblical truth, things you may already know, but are easily forgotten during our day to day busy lives. It's a terrific reminder to APPLY what we know from God's Word. Keeping our hearts where they should be, putting our faith into action via parenting . . . . it's good stuff!

Provoking to good works in parenting
Murray does an excellent job of exhorting Christian parents to view their earthly duties of raising children in light of its eternal value. I found the writings tremendously encouraging and challenging, as may be evidenced by the copious number of highlighted passages I've shared. Although I am still reading and praying through some bits that I'm not sure I agree are biblical, I'd overall recommend the book for the prayers that end each chapter if nothing else - and there's a good deal else from which to learn!
