COOL PIECE THAT MY GRANDKIDS LOVES
I bought this for my 5-year-old grandson who enjoys studying insects and "collecting new species" and his 2-year-old twin cousins who are obsessed (and a "yittle bit scared") of buggies.I purchased separately a vacuum bug collecting device but needed a container in which my budding entomologists could keep their catches and so I bought this product. I was really only interested in the container, but the additional accessories proved to be big hits (including the toy plastic spider!) The stickers were especially enjoyed by the twins and we were finding them throughout the house for days after they got their hands on them. The container is, of course, the main feature, and we're very happy with itIt's large enough to hold quite a few bugs, but also of a size, that small kids can easily handle. It's made of a pretty thick and durable seeming plastic so no worries about breaking glass. It has two magnifying lenses, one on the side and one on the top. They're not anything close to being powerful, but the kids love them...although the twins had a little trouble with figuring out how to best position the case to enable them to take advantage of the lenses.A note about collecting the insects: This is a collection toy, not a habitat. The 5 year gets it but the twins want to save their catches and feed them grass. If you try and keep the bugs as "pets" unless you are unusually dedicated to the task you will be sentencing them to death. You might as well step on them because that will do the job more quickly. I don't know what St. Francis of Assisi would think of me but my love of animals very definitely excludes bugs. I hate all but a very few species. I do, however, want my grandkids to have and show respect for all life so at the end of every "expedition" we release their catches. Depending on the species, I may mercifully end the loathsome critters' lives when no one is looking, but this is rare because the kids usually spend minutes waving Bye-Bye.Kids of all ages can with age-appropriate supervision have a lot of meaningful fun with this kit: spending time outdoors in the fresh air and appreciating the life that abounds around them.
