I have been studying marimba for about a month now. I know how to play piano and organ so I'm already able to play it adequately although I have bought Mitchell Peters Fundamental Method for Mallets, Book 1 to help me develop my skills. A friend gave me her used marimba and some mallets that were very hard and produced a harsh, ugly sound. At first I thought something was wrong with the instrument but now thanks to the book, I realize it was because they were XYLOPHONE mallets instead. Here's a warning: if you are learning a percussion instrument in the xylophone family, make sure you get the right kind of mallets because constant use of the wrong ones can damage the instrument. These soft, red yarn ones are PERFECT for marimbas because they produce such a soft, muted, wholesome, lovely tone.If you have a marimba at home and are looking for the right kind of mallets you've come to the right place.

Great sounding mallets, not too bright but not too soft. I would say these are best suited for ensemble playing. Soloists might look for something a bit brighter/harder for anything that requires fast, articulate playing.Note: the handles are about an inch shorter than most mallets. Great for accuracy when playing with 2 mallets, but I would probably go with something longer for 4 mallet playing.

The quality is great, but the mallets are heavy and a little short.If you're used to short, heavy mallets, this won't bother you. But after playing with some longer, lighter mallets, these ones seem a bit cumbersome.

Works really well for my son in band class. Although I have to replace them about once a year, that's still much less frequently than with other brands.

Works good but from regular concert band use the ends tend to fray. Serve the purpose for 6B. Also purchased Monkey Mallets, they were too light and the mallets were soft compared to these.

My child's band-mates were jealous, because these mallets are better than ones they had paid much more for! They play just barely softer than other mediums, but they're perfect for school.
