Don't waste your money
One of the worst books on dog aggression I have ever come across. The author may have met some dogs, but I doubt he has ever owned one or trained one. It is full of inaccuracies (dogs are generally hydrophobic he says, for example. Really? That would be why you can't get most of the out of the water, and why hydrotherapy is a trusted physiotherapy exercise for dogs.) and anthropomorphisms (he suggests at one point that a reward for doing well in training is a day off training. "Well Fido, if you work really hard this week you can have Sunday off" - yeah, right, dogs connect such concepts as working hard with a day off sometime later - stick to praise and treats if you want your dog to know it's doing well!). Under any circumstances, a dog is a dog. It doesn't think like a human and it doesn't act like a human. That is because it isn't human. Given the subject matter, people with aggression issues with a dog should steer well away from taking this book seriously - aggression is for professional advice, and there's none in this book. But my personal favourite part had to be the advice to stay away from violent and aggressive films because dogs, like children, absorb and are normalised by what they watch on TV. Good grief, I never once considered we needed new film classifications, but I shall certainly be ensuring that my border collie stops watching Star Wars in case he turns out like Darth Vader.

THE WORST BOOK I HAVE EVER PURCHASED! - FRAUDULENT in my opinion
I have only given this book 1 Star - because it isn't possible to award it ZERO STARS!Below is my "review" in the form of my email to Amazon Customer Services!HelloI am writing to inform you that I am DISGUSTED that you have marketed this book with the description that you applied on your website.Rather than being "The Ultimate Guide" - it isn't even a book! At best a booklet and only marginally above a pamphlet! It is 25 pages in total! In large font with lots of unnecessary paragraph spacing to make it that many pages. Not a picture, photo or diagram in sight! There are not even any page numbers! It is poor in its grammar, it's formatting is amateur (for example a sub-heading in bold at the bottom of a page with the text on the next page), it is simply a mixture of generalisations and some astounding assertions that are simply wrong: big dogs are more likely to be aggressive than small dogs; giving your dog a "no training day" will give your dog a hint that it is doing the right thing; a factually incorrect definition of "negative reinforcement". These assertions are not the result of a difference of opinion but are simply matters that anyone with any experience or education in dog training or anyone involved in dog training could and would refute.I have no idea who the alleged author is. There is no profile of the author, as is common in these sorts of books. What I do know is that the author has limited, if any experience of dog training and is certainly no authority on dog aggression: its causes nor its solutions! The use of language in this joke of a publication is amateurish, some sentences to not even make sense. The content and layout as a whole, is akin to a minor piece of coursework by a GCSE student, rather than a publication of any merit on a very difficult and potentially dangerous subject. The contrast between the front cover and the content is the most incongruous that I have encountered. I consider it fraudulent!Normally, if I bought a book and found that the content was poor, I would simply put it down to experience. However, I am so incensed that I have been tricked out of £6.40 for this drivel - that I intend to complain to Trading Standards.Incidentally, "Puppy Training for Beginners" doesn't look much better and I expect to be contacting you about that in detail soon.Compare these two titles to the others in the same order and there really is no comparison. Three "proper books" and two deceptive pieces of drivel!I look forward to your investigation and reply.RegardsNigel Gunn

Dreadful
I purchased this book hoping for further insight into dog body language. I cannot imagine how this has been called the ultimate guide. It is filled with sentences that do not make sense, and the english language use is just appalling. I have learned from this book, and it's how not to write a book about dogs. The author has no idea how dogs behave, or how they should be trained, and I'm sure the average dog owner would do a better job. The whole book is laughable.
