3 ounces was perfect for my Canon Vixia R700
I spent hours reading about exactly how this is ballanced watching youtube videos. After reading the reviews here I figured out why some people have a problem ballancing this stabilizer. My camera is only 11 ounces and just one of the black steel weights is too much weight. So I bought some 1 1/2 inch fender washers and put them on. I used 8. Each weighed .42 ounces. 3.3 ounces was perfect for my Canon Vixia R700. I removed the camera and used a 10 inch bar, or bracket, and put the camera on the right side and a 4 ounce microphone on the left side. The camcorder screen opens up between them easily. Total weight is about 25 ounces. So the weight had to be increased to just one 5 1/2 ounce weight and 3 washers. This stabilizer works.I had to watch a dozen videos to completely understand the principles first. Check out "DIY simple stabilized for lightweight camcorder" and others that show up with it. The fender washers made all the diference in making this work.

My Own Fault
I was looking for something that allows me to film more steady and smooth videos. This is not that! It takes away some movement but it is extremely heavy. I didn’t even try to use my Canon 80D with this. Instead I use my Canon G7X, which is a very lightweight camera. My arm hurts when I use this stabilizer! Also, it’s not practical when you think about carrying it around or being in public. I had to run out to the car and put away because it didn’t fit in my bag.

You get what you pay for.
In an effort to save a few dollars, I bought this product because it resembled the original product well enough. The real difference came in with the weights all being the same weight. Whereas the original product has three different weights: A heavy, medium, and light. My camera is 1.4lbs and its mounting hole is off center which was very frustrating. After two hours of watching YouTube videos and trying to calibrate it, I had to think about how intensive it was going to be to do this EVERY SINGLE TIME I would use this product in the future. Nope!

Heavy
After several UTubes videos got it balanced. It isnt easy. Though its made well.Needs friction between the balance hanger and u bracket. The anodizing makes it slippery. Prolly will glue in sandpaper or rough sand brackets.But... foremost, its heavy for long periods. 2lbs-1oz(with all weights) + DSLR camera 2lbs-13oz equals almost 5lbs ! more than a bag of sugar.Dunno if Ill keep it..

I have not been able to get this balanced with my DSLR, no matter how hard I try. I have a Canon T2i, and I have tried off and on for months to get this to work with no success. The weights are either too much or too little, maybe if there were more weights of smaller amounts I could make the incremental changes this stabilizer clearly needs to work properly.

great but was missing a part
only giving this 4 stars because it arrived without the thread adapter to connect the handle to the main body of the stabilizer. This was dissappinting but the adapters are a common for tripods and such and easy to find.It does take a little while to set it up properly but once you do the results are great

When this works correctly it is nice, but it is extremely loose fitting and not well made. The ball joint sticks a lot of times and it often requires extra handling of the stabilizer to get it free which causes the stabilizer to shift...and then you're back to adjusting it to get the thing level again. AGHHHH!

it's not bad at all
For the price I knew what I was getting, and I don't regret it, once you balance it well, it's not bad at all. I would suggest it for low budget or hobby filming on most DSLR's Also the phone holder was a nice touch. I would have paid extra for that alone. I was able to balance my Nikon D3300 in about 15 mins.
