Heavy but Interesting
There are three reasons for reading this book.First, whilst there is a lot of literature about the Western (European) front, and a fair amount on the Eastern front and the Italian campaign, there is relatively little about the arduous and long drawn out war in Burma and the disparate forces involved.Second, various anti-immigration types in this country somehow bring a theme of, "my (grand) father fought for this country in the War" followed by a non-sequitur about there being too many immigrants. Read this book and you will see how many Africans and Asians, including many Muslims, fought on the British side.Third, on a lighter note, the author's language and style are splendidly dated, reminiscent of the military types I met as a boy.The down side of the book is that it's rather turgid, and I struggled with many far away places (and people) with strange sounding names: a bit indigestible. But the heroics are there and you have to admire and be grateful to the participants.

Interesting l
This narrative covers a very interesting sector in Britain's recovery in Malaysia and Burma. Much of the type of action was new to me and I found it absorbing.

A ton of information
Everything is well researched and explained in detail. I enjoyed learning about raids and action, but also felt could have been done with q lot fewer words. I sometimes found myself thinking come on let's get into the action.

Great Revelation of a forgotten part of WW II
Excellent book detailing the Battle for Burma by the British forces through the narrative of the leader of V force. A deep insight into a very overlooked corner of the war. Well written and follows a good pace. Well worth reading.

Another subtly related description of events that unassumingly covers the immenss bravery
A place of nightmares where the weather, the bugs, a d the very terrain join hands with the enemy to try to kil you. Told factually by one who was there. Amazing courage and bravery were the norm and expected. A part of WW2 not much heard abojt. Very interesting and makes one proud to be British.
