4.5 - So Glad I Read This!
I am so glad I read this. It was captivating, emotional and I could almost feel the pull between Eleanor and Leena. It was written so beautifully. I loved the dual narration too. The author did a great job at conveying that sense of deep connection between the characters.

At once heartening and heartbreaking
I loved this story, from the saccharine but heartfelt and total encompassing emotion of two young women in love while in college to the mature adults the two protagonists become. Particularly, it does an admirable job of presenting the weird and sad and wonderful emotions and reactions that happen in response to coming out to family, as well as the ways that queer women can float between friendship and romance at different periods in their lives. At once heartening and heartbreaking, Hashimoto leaves the reader with a sense of the hope and possibility the future holds, especially as one learns to grow and change with what life throws in a person's path.

wonderful queer love story with broad appeal
This book was so delightful and thought provoking. For me it felt like a mash-up of Normal People and When Harry Met Sally but with deeper characters that really matured in a way that was very true to how people grow and change from ages 20 to mid-thirties.

Debut novel and it really shows
Found myself having to re-read passages multiple times because the descriptions were so confusing. Cringe-worthy dialogue. This read like a bad lesbian movie, but in book form. Wasn’t exactly expecting Portrait of a Lady on Fire quality, but was dismayed to be met with something I might have liked when I was 14.
