CWSP Certified Wireless Security Professional Study Guide: Exam CWSP-205

This book is my favorite on wireless security (my interest is network security). Very well written, comprehensive, consistent explanations from beginning to end with authors that know how to write well. I have been involved in wireless networking for two decades and I learned a lot from this book.The CWNP organization continues to impress me with the quality of their materials. Their books are not just study guides, but solid reference books for any networking library.I plan to take the CWSP exam next month, which will become my third CWNP certification. I personally feel that these certifications represent real knowledge applicable to real world needs. With all the press on security breaches, all companies need better trained engineers in security technology and best practices. This book hits the spot for wireless security.[Update April 28, 2018]I took the CWSP certification exam on the 25th. I passed with a 93. This book is outstanding in meeting the objectives of the exam and as a desk reference. Excellent book.

I continue to be thoroughly impressed by the CWNP curriculum. This textbook is a comprehensive deep dive into wireless security and I highly recommend that network engineers add it to their library and read through it at least once. The chapters on EAP methods and key gen were worth the price of admission alone.Highlights:- Helpful diagrams and graphs included throughout the book- Delves more into the inner workings of the standards rather than the step-by-step CLI manuals that you typically find in a vendor specific program- Covers topics ranging from key generation techniques to L2 security audit tools to WIPS architecture.- Great amount of digital content included with the book, including packet samples, flashcards, quizzes, and more.Concerns:- Some of the referenced websites are no longer available... but that's understandable, the internet is in constant flux.- There were issues getting access to the quizzes through Wiley's site, but their tech support was able to manually activate my account after a support call.

I found this book to be informative but one thing about it bugged me. They repeated several times that PEAP with MSCHAPv2 is a secure EAP/dot1x authentication method. Well, tell that to the pen testers who broke into our PEAP protected network.You can configure root certificate validation until you're blue in the face but that isn't going to stop users from bringing in their insecure Androids and iPhones unless you pay extra money for APs with MDM integration and "walled garden" support, or if you purchase a fancy NAC.PEAP is only secure if you pay enough money to secure it.

This is a serious read. The book is well put and organized and provides a comprehensive jorney over the WiFi security and Security as a whole.

Good information to study for wireless exam.

Excellent, tough exam

There’s not exactly much choice when it comes to study guides for CWSP. This one is far superior to the alternative though. That said, it’s not without problems.The publishers could really do with some decent proofreaders. There are numerous instances of things being mis-labelled, or not properly explained. There are even practice questions where the explanation of model answers doesn’t seem to match the answer given. The wording of some explanations aren’t always the easiest to understand either.To be fair though these are minor grumbles given the thoroughness with which it prepares you for the exam (which feels much easier that the practice tests in the book). It helped me to a good pass. I’d suggest supplementing this book with use of other materials, such as YouTube videos, for more complicated areas.The authors clearly have a sense of humour. See if you can spot the Monty Python references in the practice questions.
