The best version yet
This light bulb is the closest match in color to the older incandescent bulbs that I've ever seen. The three levels of brightness are excellent and the bulb height is a common size to fit many different lamps. Finally these 3-way LED bulbs are at a more affordable price and it works in the low/medium/high order when adjusting the light level. The energy savings are great and there is next to no heat given off by the bulb.Previously, I'd tried the CFL 3-way bulbs and was disappointed with that type of replacment bulb. The CFL bulbs often had odd and inconsistent colors and sometimes had strange orders for adjusting levels of brightness. They would also often have certain levels that would burn out making them somewhat worthless. This Cree LED brand bulb is perfect for what I needed and is far superior to CFL bulbs in almost every way.

CREE LED 3-way bulbs (short lifespan)
I am a true CREE LED lightbulb fan! I ordered a four bulb new package of three-way (30, 60, 100) LED bulbs on April 27 of this year and installed them in three desk lamps in our master bedroom - none of which have dimmers on them. These bulbs have an expected life of 13.7 years, based on 3 hours use each day. Two of the three installed bulbs have already failed... in under 6 months of use. I am disappointed and will be contacting CREE directly.

Very nice bulb. Good color temp
Very nice bulb. Good color temp. Unfortunately, the low setting has failed after less than one week's use. Now going to try to get the bulb replaced under the warranty. Will see how that goes and update this review accordingly.

Works well once fixed
The bulb as delivered didn't work properly. There was a large semi circle of what looked to be solder making up the center connection on the bottom of the bulb. It was thick enough that it prevented the bulb from screwing into two different lamps far enough for the outer ring to make contact. This meant the bulb worked like a regular non-three-way bulb. Two lamp settings were off, and two were the same brighness. I filed the center connection down with a metal file, and it was easy to remove material until the bulb worked as expected. Not difficult but shouldn't be necessary.

Great so far.
Love it so far. Only had it for less than a week so I don't know about longevity but for now it works and looks great. Had a CFL 3 way 30 60 100 before and this LED 3 way 30 60 100 puts out better and a little brighter light. Hope it last. Great price. Bought another to put another lamp and it only worked on med. Found out it was the lamp not the bulb. The problem was in the socket of my lamp and not the bulb. If you look down in the socket you will see that there are two contacts. The regular one and a smaller one that is off center. The problem is that the off center one is to low and not making contact with the bulb. Unplug lamp and take a screw driver and raise the small contact up just a little. It worked for me. I had to do two lamps like this. The other two worked fine. Will be ordering 2 or 3 more.

Will fail way too soon
So tired of LED bulbs and particularly these Cree 3 way bulbs. I bought 3 of these in October 17 and 2 have failed. I called the company for the first one and they did send a replacement so there is that. I'm not even going to bother with this failure. You pay so much money and they give you these crazy hour rating making it seem like you will die before the bulb wears out. I have LED all over my house I've lived here 4 years and while they don't wear out as quickly as incandescent it's not worth the 10x higher price. I've buried at least 7 LED bulbs from various manufactures but Cree seems to be the worst and they cost too much.

Check the electrical contacts! Really!
READ THE UPDATE BELOW!I had read the many negative reviews about their short lives but I had found 3 way lights were fussy for two reasons: arcing contacts get damaged enough to stop working and poor quality sockets. This was long before LED bulbs existed. So I took the chance and bought one. Sure enough, it only worked on one setting but when I unplugged the light, removed the bulb, and slightly bent the contact that looks like a tab and carefully scraped the other contact (sometimes a silver color rather than copper color) enough to remove the carbon buildup (black stuff) and it works fine after re-assembling. The thing that thrilled me was that the lighting is perfect for the light on my nightstand. UPDATE: So after my wife saw how great these bulbs are, she decided she wanted to try one too. So I put my bulb in her nightstand lamp and it didn’t work in her lamp either until I fixed the contacts. Those that are writing bad reviews are quite possibly blaming the wrong people.I’m ordering another bulb right now.
