Old-fashioned enjoyment
I've read some of the Alleyn mysteries before, and of course over time seen TV adaptations of a few. But I've been completely entranced by re-visiting the series. They are true, old-fashioned, crime mysteries. There is little blood and virtually no violence, just intricately woven murder stories and well formed characters. The number of different characters in the books may look a bit overwhelming at first, but Ngaio Marsh is a master of introducing each one and setting their place within the story very clearly, which results in little time being wasted having to flip back to see who's who, which is particularly useful with an e-book version. The stories may be seen by some as dated, which in a way they are, but it's exactly this - the period, the manner of speech, the old-fashioned values that they promote - that make them so appealing to lovers of classic crime. I'm looking forward to moving on to the next ...

A trio of Alleyn
Excellent well paced exciting murder mysteries that take us from one side of the world to the other, from farms to nightclubs and on the way we find spies ,drug dealers ,murderers love and romance ,as well as a revealing insight into Alleyn private life with Troy. Altogether very enjoyable.

The middle story
is familiar from the DVD's but, for instance, 'Died in the Wool' was (unfortunately) extremely boring

Excellent bargain
Three books that I wanted, all in an omnibus edition. Really pleased with this. The only downside is that it is a bit unwieldy to hold.
