This is a true warm white led bulb!
These are a nice warm white, like an incandescent. They also dim well. The only odd thing about them -- kind of tripy actually! -- is that when you turn them off, they stay a tiny bit lit. Maybe there is something phosphorescent in the bulb? Don't know, but it was a surprise! The afterglow does wear off after a bit. Also, they are extremely bright when at full throttle. Would buy again.

Work on older dimmer switch; very little buzz; very bright; little heat output
Just received the 4 pack of Cree SA19-04627MDFD-12DE26-1-14 Led 40W Replacement A19 Soft White (2700K) Dimmable Light Bulbs. I have a fan with dimmable lights that was probably installed in mid-2000. I read on some website review (google best dimmable LED bulbs) and purchased them to compare with 1 MaxLite non-dimmable 9w (60w equivalent) soft white LED bulb that I received "free" at a community event where they were handing them out. So the Cree bulbs do dim better, even on my old, dated dimmer switch. The MaxLite, that is non-dimmable actually dims, but at about 50% before it turns off, and it buzzes some. This would be expected, and IS NOT a knock against the MaxLite's as it clearly states on the box they are not dimmable. The 40W vs the 60W is way appropriate for four of them in a fan, the 60W is incredibly bright, nice to know for other rooms. So these definitely dim well. I can dim down to almost off. Which is good, because these are very bright, if I could find 20W bulbs, that would have worked in this space.I'm not sure about the soft white, I'm not finding either of them particularly soft. I don't like any kind of artificial light, so I guess I don't find them any more objectionable than non-LED bulbs. The Maxlite buzzes more than the Cree, but again, that would be expected because you shouldn't use a non-dimmable bulb in dimmers. In a non-dimmable light, the Maxlite make the same amount of buzz as the Crees. I do hear the Crees buzz ever so slightly but it does not bother me, and I have to be standing right under the fan light to hear them.I was concerned about the size of this bulb in the fan light bulb socket which covers the bulb and I was concerned about heat built-up. No heat problems, the bulbs are cooler than the smaller, non-LED bulbs that were in it.No comment on longevity yet. I guess I better hang on to my receipt as these have a 10 year guarantee and supposedly can last up to 22 years. I do keep my reviews up to date so if they die prematurely, I will return here and post my comments. 5 star review for brightniss, little to no buzz, and working on an older dimmer switch.

These dim poorly, just like cheaper bulbs.
This review is for the 40W 2700K newer style bulb. I've probably tested at least a dozen different LED bulbs, all the way back to the first Philips 60W bulb that won the US Department of Energy award. And I am sad to say that every new generation of bulbs costs less and works worse than the previous generation. When you take them out of the pack, they are all about the same. Some are ugly, some cute. Some have a soft coating, some hard. Some buzz, some do not. Some burn out prematurely, some seem to last forever. Quality varies, usually correlated with price. But in one respect they are getting all getting worse. That is the dimmability.I test dimmability by lowering a wall dimmer to its lowest setting, then turning on the switch. The bulb should come on immediately, or even better it should slowly come up to full brightness in 1-3 seconds. First generation bulbs nearly all passed the test. A year later you could buy what appeared to be the same bulb from the same manufacturer, in the same box. When you got it home, you'd find that the new bulb did not come on until you raised the brightness substantially. Once it was on, you could lower the brightness to the lowest level, and the bulb would stay on. Incandescent bulbs worked that way with nearly all dimmers, but the first generation of LED bulbs broke the mold. Most of them would come on dim. You never needed to first raise the brightness, then lower it again.I guess I was spoiled by the first generation LED bulb quality. I was thrilled, and put dimmers all over the house. At night I would turn them onto their lowest setting, then turn them on, and be welcomed with a comfortable glow. I really like that capability. I very much dislike having to turn them on, then turn them up, then turn them down. I guess it is just a pet peeve. In my youth all incandescent bulbs all worked that way, and it bothered me every time it happened. LED bulbs fixed it. At least most of them did.Until now, all the Cree bulbs I tested met my standards for dimmability. These do not. The older, ugly Cree bulbs were great. These new style bulbs are like any other brand. They dim poorly. If I were you, I would buy cheaper bulbs. These new Cree bulbs are no better than the ones that cost $1.50. It pains me to say that, but that is the way it is. Now I have to go shopping for bulbs again, hoping to find some quality holdout on the shelves. When I find some, I plan to buy enough of them to last a long time.

These bulbs don't distort colors. don't glare and they don't Buzz! Cree got it right!
My husband recently installed a new light fixture in our eat-in kitchen. I could not tolerate the brightness of the 5 LED light bulbs he put in the fixture. He, on the other hand, thought they were great. I have an intolerance to bright light due to an eye disorder and several surgeries I had as a child. He promptly went out and bought a GE dimmer switch so we both could be happy but the bulbs just buzzed so much that I had to turn the light off, and use the other light fixture in the kitchen (it's a huge kitchen), which really wasn't bright enough. He then suggested that I do some research on LED bulbs buzzing since I love to do research online. That brought me to Cree bulbs and the reviews here resulted in our buying this model of the Cree bulb. There is now absolutely no buzzing noise, even when I turn them down! It's wonderful! Our old fixture used six incandescent 40 watt bulbs. This new one uses five 40 watt LED bulbs, in the soft-white, and they show true colors; they don't glare and both of us are so happy. Fewer LED bulbs give off better light than six of the old-fashioned incandescents. If I could give them six stars I would. I heartily recommend Cree bulbs.
