PENN Rival Level Wind Conventional Fishing Reel

Nice smooth reel, love the handle and how it fits in my hand. Great value and not too heavy. I have 3 of these reels now.

This reel is a sibling spinoff from the or the penn warfare of course they both took their design similarities from the original squall series. The main thing I liked about this reel is it similar to a baitcasting reel like the penn international 965 and 975 but in a cheaper body. I like the self engagement feature it provides where you only need to turn the handle to engage the reel like a baitcaster. First time out of the box it may feel a little tight but omce you place on a rod it feels better. I used it for rockfishing, catfishing, bay fishing and salmon and works well. Do not try to use it on very large game as the drag and plastic pins are not built for things like bliefin tuna. If they make this with all metal gears and pins I would say it is a great catch.

I have always been a fan of Penn. This seems to be a good basic inexpensive reel. I purchased two for cat fishing. Note: these reels are also available as a combo, but I was not impressed with the Penn rod so I purchased different rods locally and bought both reels on Amazon. So far I am satisfied but have not hooked into a cat over 20 lbs so cannot say how well they will hold up after a few feisty 40+ cats. I also will use them for pier fishing on different rods. I was looking for an inexpensive reel with decent gears and brakes that will last. I believe these will fill the bill.

Probably one of the best reels I have every purchased. Reels in smooth and drag setting are also very smooth. Would recommend.

I like this enough to purchase 4 more. Penn quality always good. I use these for my lead core reels. 1, 2, 3, 5 , 7 color.

Junks absolute JUNK. I didnt expect a lot for the price but I also expected them to make it thru the first trip. 11lb fish broke the first one and a 13lb broke the 2nd. Horrible design. Bolts only hold the stand that is barley riveted to the frame. PENN is absolutely no help at all. Said to take them to a dealer. I ordered replacements but will be returning them for a refund and stick w ABU.

Reel is great. For salt water must keep the level wind part clean if not it get stuck then you try to reel and the plastic gear strip out and needs to be replace easy to repair part about 1.50 so order a few.or clean it good. Fresh water you would have no problems. That my opinion

Have used this reel 10+ times already, have caught plenty of fish with it and the reel is really amazing for the price. Smooth rotations and very good quality.

Nice reels great for lingcod can handle 30 lbs fish . The only 3 stars because it was late. .
