Okuma Solterra SLX Lever Drag Reel

At less than half the price of many of the high-end 2-speed reels, this Okuma Solterra SLX-50 rocks! It's lighter, has plenty of capacity, and has a buttery smooth drag and gear shifter. Sure, it's not a Penn or Shimano but you're also not paying 2x-4x the price either. Don't be fooled.... this is a very capable reel especially for those of us who are not after huge pelagic fish on a daily or weekly basis (not that it couldn't handle it, but if you were then money probably isn't an issue for you and one of those more expensive reels is probably better suited for your purpose).I love this reel so much that I went and bought the 30Wii (the little brother).

I purchased 5 of the slx 50w reels spooled with 80lb mono this winter, Went BF tuna fishing off Jersey this week and caught 6 up to 50lbs, the reels where like butter, drags super smooth, I may get yelled at for this but I liked them better then my Penn 50tw reels, lets see how they hold up, but so far I think the quality is VG for the price point, these are not the old t50 okumas from years ago, Okuma has come a long way. Just purchased 4 of the 30 and 50 2 speeds and couldn't be Happier, great reels for the price

The lever action is great and drag is butter smooth and consistent. My only complaint is that it freespools during bottom fishing drops when lever is fully released, causing bird nesting if you don't thumb it. Not a big deal for me but I was hoping this reel would be easier to use for the newbies I take out. Teaching them to thumb is a pain. Penn Fathom star reels have tensioner screw that prevents this. I'm also not crazy about the greenish color. Doesn't look good with any of my rods. That said, happy with it but will not be switching over all my reels to this.

Used on rockfishing

Sure it's not machined aluminum frame or what ever but for my use it's perfect. It's a solid reel with tight gears and an unbelievable drag. Used mostly for bottom fishing on reefs and it works . Great cranking power and fast speed to get the big ones out of the rocks. For the money it's a winner in my book.

Got this to spool with 30lb mono for kite fishing. Last weekend it handles a 250lb thresher no prob. I have a variety of these now up to the 50s and the price and quality is unmatched. I'm done with shimano and penn

I bought two and I paired them with 2 5'6" Custom Calstar 20# Class stand up rods made by Mike at Custom Rod and Reel in Lighthouse Point. Spooled with 300 yards of 30# braid and topped with 50 yards of 30# Sufix Superio the SLX-15CS has a super smooth drag and is powerful enough to handle big fish. I will be adding more to my offshore arsenal.

very nice reel and great price

Had a glitch on the first one I received, there was an old used Penn reel in the box instead of the Okuma, but thanks to Amazon's great service item was returned and I reordered and received the new correct reel. Its huge, should fit my 600' of copper wire for salmon this summer, can't wait to try it. Looks very solid.

Excelente relacion calidad/precio, es suave y en general buena fuerza de arrastre. Ideal para pesca de fondo y trolling. Es un poco pesado por la composicion de grafito.
