Great Intro to Markets, Nice U.S. Guide
I have been playing around in the share market since 2003 and although I am no expert, I have learnt the odd thing or two (sometimes the hard way!). However, this intro-type book still taught me a whole lot. The author outlines the basics in markets, hinging the book on his "Quanta-Funda-Techna" method he talks about on his podcasts. Quanta: screens for stocks based on criteria, Funda: provides another filter based on ratios etc and Techna: helps with entries and timing.I particularly enjoyed:- the section on Indicators (leading, lagging and coincident) to watch- the constant reference to stock/bond/ETF ticker codes in the US market. As an overseas investor it helped me to get to know the US market better- the loads of websites he refers to. I always bookmark these and check them out, building my knowledge baseLook, it is not a book for the advanced investors out there but if you know the podcast series that this is based on then you should know this. However, you always learn something from books and at this price, it is an easy read.

excellent resource
because it provides a wide exposure to "the market"....from technical analysis to fundamental analysis in an easy to read format. very helpful info on peg and other ratios. it's also helpful in providing various websites for additional information. i'm not "advanced" in investing and this book is a great starting point without overly detailed, wordy explanaations.

Now that I know more about investing...
Seriously.. how is this awful trader / money manager still around? He managed my money on the recommendation of a friend in 2009 from Feb to Oct... market went up 50% and he lost 10%.!!! After I browsed his "Disciplined Investor", I realized that he models the stock market very simply. I browsed this book and once again - as a previous reviewer say, why follow his system when you can just B&H and outperform him. He's a glib and convincing talker and really sounds like he knows what he is talking about, but unfortunately, he's not as good a trader as a salesman. Now, he's started TriggerCharts.com. Geez... he's moved from money management to selling trading s/w. I guess Wall Street always has room for incompetent smooth talkers.

Actual Performance is Worse Than He Pretends
I have enjoyed Mr Horowitz' books and podcasts and it all sounds very sensible and logical. I broadly agree with the principles about Disciplined Investment, but the truth lies where the rubber meets the road. I invested a considerable sum of money with his management firm and he "managed" to lose 27% in a flat market. So what is wrong? He appeals to our common sense about investing but the reality of his approaches means you will lose more money than sitting on an S&P ETF. So why bother with reading his books? I'd not waste your money on this one.
