Take Ownership of Repairing Your Car!
The Grinchy check engine light was set to ruin the holidays. Specifically, an ABS and Brake warning! Scary stuff and not for the faint of heart. I found plenty of videos online to troubleshoot the problem and set out to restore the Christmas spirit.I yearn for the days of old when a DYI mechanic was something anyone could be. The cars may have had fewer frills and more problems, but with a Chilton manual and an auto parts store, one could be the hero and avoid exorbitant labor charges at the dealership.I narrowed my focus to repairing the ABS actuator (a known part failure on my 2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid). The part was fairly easy to source and it's not a difficult job to remove and replace. It takes a little bit of experience with a wrench and socket, plus a willingness to get your hands dirty. The manufacturer built a roadblock to keep the Christmas spirit at bay - the need for software to bleed the brakes. Luckily this cable and the accompanying software made it possible for me to be the hero of my family. It did require the use of a very old laptop with MS OS installed and required a bit of trial and error to get the software running. The instructions that are included were all I needed to fumble my way to visibility of the inner workings of our car (one we bought and paid for and should rightfully be able to understand).Though I didn't need technical support, my confidence was strengthened by the availability of both links to videos and the option for remote technical support if it was needed. Being frugal and a bit stubborn, I figured it out on my own. I suspect if you hit a roadblock, the technical support would help you get to an area of the software for your repair job. There are dozens of how-to videos available online on how to use the software - watching these ahead of time made me aware the software itself is clunky. My time spent watching created the osmosis needed for me to believe I was a power user on the software before I even connected it to my car.Bleeding the brakes wasn't a breeze, the steps are straightforward, but the software kept disconnecting from the car as another deterrent to an enjoyable holiday. Undeterred, the software's 'bugs' weren't enough to stop me from starting over and prevailing. You should note, this was not in any way related to the product I'm reviewing - it is a bug in the software and the process I was following for my repair job. It was most likely due to me not following the steps closely enough. I never had the feeling it was due to the cable. In the end, my safety glasses blocked a final spurt of brake fluid from the last brake line on the back of the car and the dreaded ABS light and beeping went back into hiding. Christmas (and a lot of money) was saved! But more importantly, my love of car ownership and taking care of the car I own was restored. This Frugal Father saved Christmas with a little help from some elves who made this cable available to me.

Installation instructions do not match provided software
This is going back. In addition to the software not matching the instructions, they offer support as in remote access to your computer and contacting them through WhatsApp. No thank you. What a mess. Whoever generated this package must not know what they are selling. The instructions indicate there are certain files to open, they don't even exist on the disc or the decompressed software. The instructions also reference getting a virus alert. I believe I got four or five alerts. So, in addition to not having what they show during the installation instructions available, there's additional virus alerts that make it suspicious. In addition, the installation of the driver did not work. Again, following their instructions both on video and in writing. Nothing worked. This was a waste of my time.I have had a working system in the past, bought off of a competitor's auction website, I just changed computers and needed a new installation and thought a new cable would also help since my other one had gotten beat up and a door closed on it. I am comfortable installing things and I have been successful in the past. Not today.

Functions well once you figure out how to install
The video instructions on disc is helpful but a little cryptic and the program that installed driver for cable didn't work for me but driver is located in the supplied disc . Make sure to disable firewall and anti-virus. I installed this on an old laptop that I no longer prioritize and had a cd/dvd drive that allowed me to copy the files from the disc to my desktop. The AutoKent program did not install the driver but the drivers are located in the Autokent folder and you can install driver manually. I plugged in Mini VCI cable and under device manager, the USB did not list any ports but device manager did display the Mini VCI cable. Right click on the device that displays the cable under properties and you can install driver by choosing/locating Autokent folder and the corresponding driver number 1.4.8. There are instructions on Youtube regarding how to do this for this cable. Once the driver is installed, USB in device manager will show a com number under ports. After the driver and Techstream programs are installed, you will need WinRar to unpack the patch to use Techstream. Winrar is free and can be downloaded online. Once you unpack the .rar file, there will be 2 patches - 32 or 64 bit patch. Mine didn't specify which is which. I used both and determined the correct patch was the one that functioned in a stable manner. The patch is what allows you to use Techstream without registering the program when you click/select it. I used Techstream to register TPMS sensors and had no issues with using it so far.

Worked for me after finding help on YouTube.
Cable works fine. I got a spare key and TPMS replacements to work for my 2008 Toyota Matrix. The software and included instructions are junk. I tried to follow the directions but it didn’t work. Had to deal with pirated software that triggers antivirus only for it to fail to work once installed and connected. There’s a video tutorial on YouTube that has necessary links that did work. It involves setting up a virtual machine to run Windows XP.

Works on Windows 11 laptop
Installed on a laptop with no CD/DVD drive.Followed instructions in packaging to get in touch with customer service and no more than 75 minutes later I had received an answer, gotten a link to download the installation software and was connected to my car with the Version 12 program.no issues on Windows 11 whatsoever. Just watch the installation video step-by-step. pause when you need to and do as they do. easy-peasy
