Great little flashlight without giving up brightness, the Sofirn SC21
Sofirn has released one of their smallest flashlights, the SC21. It features a small size but without making any sacrifices on power. Inside we find a Samsung LH351D, which is something we haven’t seen on a Sofirn light before and a 16340 battery all in small body and around 60g of weight. What’s in the box:Flashlight, USB type-c cable, Sofirn 16340 battery (800 mAh), belt clip, lanyard, 2 spare o-rings, instructions.Specifications:Samsung LH351D (5000K 90CRI)Battery: 16340 Li-ion battery (Sofirn, 800 mAh)Dimension: 73mm (length) × 22.5mm (head diameter)Weight: 39 grams (without battery), 60 grams (with included battery)Other features: Reverse polarity protection, Low voltage warning, Mode memory, Low voltage protection, Advanced thermal regulation, Led power indicator on switchOutput (as stated by the manufacturer, using the included battery): 1 (moonlight) – 1000 (turbo) lumensUI/Operation:The flashlight offers two groups of modes, either stepped levels or ramped. At the ramped group you can choose the desired level of brightness by holding the switch and releasing it. The stepped group offers 3 levels (Low, Medium, High) with two additional hidden modes (Moonlight, Turbo). The manufacturer has listed the brightness of the modes as following: 1lm (Moonlight), 10lm (Low), 100lm (Medium), 400lm (High), 1000lm (Turbo).I’d love to see a better UI like Anduril in this one but the included UI is simple enough. Moonlight is accessed by holding the switch from OFF and Turbo by double pressing the switch from any state. Also from any mode, triple clicking goes into strobes. The ramped group is pretty straight forward, you set the desired brightness by holding the switch. Changing between levels on stepped group is possible by holding the switch, ON and OFF by single click.Lastly there is a lockout mode, a pretty useful feature for pocketable flashlights. From OFF, 4 single clicks to enter it. The light will lock and only Moonlight mode can be accessed by holding the switch. However, in this mode the flashlight will do a short double flash every time the switch is pressed to let you know it’s locked. You can see how this can be problematic since many accidental pressed may occur when in a pocket or a bag. Still better than being set at full brightness but I’d strongly prefer if it didn’t flash at all.Body/parts characteristics:The body is pretty characteristic to Sofirn’s style of making flashlights. All black color with some cooling fins below the emitter. The button switch has an LED indicator with green or red color to indicate the battery charge and the charging status. Personally, I disliked the feeling of the switch. It feels weird when pressing it, has small travel distance and little tactility so it’s hard to tell if you’ve pressed it and it doesn’t feel good when pressing it. On the opposite side of the light, there is the USB-type C charging port. It’s protected by a silicone cover, it’s not as thick as for example in their IF25 model and I haven’t tested against water but it’s supposed to protect the circuit from accidental water splashes, I wouldn’t trust it to withstand water under pressure though.Beam quality:I’ve criticized Sofirn for their extensive use of cool white emitters. Although to be fair, almost all of them are closer to neutral white rather than cool white. The Samsung LH351D is the best emitter I’ve seen on a Sofirn light yet (among those I’ve owned). It’s not the best emitter out there but it’s pretty decent and pleasing. The reflector has the orange peel texture so it doesn’t have a well-defined hot spot but rather a smooth one.Size/Comparison with other flashlights:It looks like Sofirn is trying the 16340 size. We’ve had many noteworthy lights in that category, offering high brightness with very small size. I think that the SC21 seems to be the most affordable option of them, with a battery included in the price. From what I know, the only other flashlight in the same category and in a similar price point is the On the Road M3. The two lights are fairly similar but the slightly better UI and the much better emitter, give the SC21 the cutting edge. More expensive lights may have better emitters and better UI but at a much higher price point.Battery and built-in charging:In the package a Sofirn 800mAh battery is included. Sofirn batteries seems to be of decent quality and true to their claims. It is claimed that the charging is at 1A at max, which means the battery will be fully charged from empty in less than an hour, usually around 30mins if not completely empty. Reminder: you shouldn’t completely empty the battery.Pros-Cons:+ Small pocketable size and weight without big sacrifice of power+ Built-in USB-type C charging port+ Very good VFM ratio+ Excellent emitter choice, Samsung LH351D. The light quality is pleasing- I don’t quite like the button switch, it doesn’t feel tactile enough to tell if it’s pressed or not, it gives a strange feeling

Superb light in small package
Decided to order it as was after a small flashlight that I could use a keyring. TLDR, it is perfect for this. If you want to know more read below:Light comes in small box packed with instructions, USB C charging lead, pocket clip, lanyard and spare orings. It uses USB type C for charging, perfect as u can use my phone charger to charge it.Light is very light and small. One switch (very nice and smooth in operation) operates all modes, I refer you to use manual doe details. It uses LH351D emitter, 5000K light temperature. Orange peel style reflector produces very nice wide beam, I'm pleasently surprised, especially taking small size of the light in to consideration. It has few light modes, candlelight mode, low 10lumen, medium 100lumen, high 400lumen and turbo 1000lumen, additionally you get the strobe and SOS signal both at 1000 lumen.I found medium at 100 lumen or high at 400 lumen to be most suitable for my use and offering a very good run time for such a small light. With included battery I'm getting to about 3.5h on medium and about 1h15min on high.Turbo is very bright but not really a mode you want to use often as it drains battery very quickly. Lights has quite aggressive thermal controls and reduces brightness from turbo after 35-40 seconds.Included dual pocket/cap clip is very good but could be better, I would love to see more capacity on the cap side as it won't fit on some of my caps.I really like the magnetic back, comes usefull as light can be attached to anything made form steel.Overall this is amazing light for the price, fit and finish are superb. Operation is super smooth, modes available are perfect for my needs, size, weight, diameter, just everything about it is perfectly balanced. One thing that I would love to see added to the package is a small split ring and carabineer so it is easier to use this light as a keyring. This would be perfect.

Meine neue Lieblings EDC
