Revelations of a Spirit Medium: Spiritualistic Mysteries Exposed

I bought this book after finding it mentioned in other literature I'd been reading; I found it quite entertaining and very informative; I understand why Spiritualists bought up and burned as many copies of this book as they could find when it was first published. While many of the deceptions and tricks outlined in its pages are no longer valid (but, oh, are they clever!), the observations about human nature are. Amazing that some things never change.

This is a wonderful book.I first became aware of it when I read of Dr. Richard Hodgson's appraisal of the book. Though the author remains a bit of a mystery, the introduction by Price and Dingwall is insightful.Many, many classical séance tricks are exposed in this book, ranging from slate writing tricks to billet reading and "table levitations". My only problem with this book (though it may only be an issue with this edition; I'm unsure) is that it was not organized well and, if it hadn't been such easy reading, I would have found it a chore to get through. There are really no chapter organizations, etc, though there are some nice illustrations in the book.My favorite part was at the end where the author encouraged readers not to abandon Spiritualism entirely -rather investigate it and separate the "wheat from the chaff". If something is fraudulent, then there is usually something legitimate that it is based on. Whatever that may be, the author leaves for the investigator's discovery. A nice bit of advice is given at the end: chiefly, don't let other people think for you.All in all, I recommend it.

I didn't think I would really like these old books from the 15th 16th century being reprinted because they talk different back then but I must say every one of these books that I have bought in this series have been excellent excellent books
