5-Minute Sketching -- People: Super-quick Techniques for Amazing Drawings

I was really hesitant to buy this book - twenty bucks is a lot of money for me. But after reading the reviews, I was convinced that it would be worth the price of admission. I'm a "shade tree" artist and love to "urban sketch" people when I'm out and about. I'm being treated for breast cancer and spend a lot of time in doctor's offices and in the chemo chair - perfect for people sketching.This book is so specific for what I do (and what I was looking for) that I don't regret spending the twenty bucks one little bit. Excellent explanations and examples, I can see myself referring to it until it falls apart. Pete Scully seems to have known exactly what I was looking for, and presented it in a way that I can immediately apply it to my sketching. It's kinda cool to start seeing results right away.Like I said, worth the price of admission.

I have been a fan of Pete Scully's sketches for several years, so I was excited to learn more about his techniques for sketching people. This book is great for someone who is just starting to sketch and also for more experienced sketchers who would like to improve their ability to draw people quickly. The book is divided into many short sections, making it easy to read on the go. I was surprised by just how much information was covered in a book of this size.

Im reading it and it sounds great. Now I have to allow time to try the techniques. It's interesting but I thing most of the illustrations are beyond my abilities....but I'll try.

Love this 5-Minute Sketching book. There is plenty of artwork and information about how to draw people correctly. This book is truly a learning experience and I am truly enjoying it. Pete Scully's artwork is great.

Great reference book. Wish they had art books like this when I was an up and coming artist. Well worth the purchase for any level artist. Need more books of this quality.

Some good ideas for inspiration, but his drawings are not all that good. Fortunately he includes drawings from other people, which are much better. You don't really need a book for doing this--just go out and do it.

Really enjoying this book, gave one to my son and will be buying the one for drawing buildings too.

Great book, different from other that only give you big highlights, this book develop chapters that give tips and space to practice. I feel my people sketch improve

Nice book, easy to follow sketching for illustrations to support a story

I bought all three books in this series, I think the author does a good job of teaching quick sketching as well as 5 minute sketching.I disagree politely with those that say beginners can’t use these books. It’s also got a lot of tips for advanced artists who may want to try to simplify their work and try something newI have started a 5 minute sketch club and it was based on these books. Many of the people are new to sketching and these books have been very helpful in learning techniques and a place to start.They also show a huge range of styles, encouraging people who don’t draw ‘conventionally’ to draw in a way that suits them.These books are good at breaking things down to the basic building blocks of art.I didn’t find that much overlap in them, I think a master book containing all of the series would be a cool idea if it wasn’t overpriced.Maybe for beginners without other people around it can be daunting to just pick up a pencil or other medium and start drawing. The 5 min sketching is good to get going and to quell your inner critic.Just draw!Great tips on fast textures, using charcoal, drawing crowds etc it’s a lot of fun!
