a bit too fanciful
This is my least favourite book of the WH 40k series I have read so far. I did not really like the potrayal of the Chaos world and not convinced by the manner in which the Space marines ended up there. In additon, I found that certain of the demons seemed too powerful and it it was difficult to accept many of the events in the story as believable.I felt many of the characters and the characteristics of the chaos world were not really convicing or believable. I found the execution of the story to be a bit too fanciful for my liking. Also there were thousands of humans and mutants apparently living on the desolate demon world. But there was no explanation as to how people could survive on such a dead planet. This bothered my sense of reality. On the other hand, the conflict between the Chaos lords and the general idea behind the story was interesting and the action was good in places. If you like a fantasy story with all powerful demons and almost impossible heriocs (even for Space Marines) then this may be for you. If you like your demons to be a bit more fallible and your demon worlds to have a bit of background, then you may have trouble enjoying parts of this book.

Among the best Warhammer 40.000 novels
It is fast paced, full of gory action and one of the best ideas on how the traitor chapters live and multiply (yes - MULTIPLY - don't expect it to be nice) in the Eye of Terror - Fantastic. Definatly among the better Warhammer 40.000 novels this one has a few surprises in store for you and I really love when the author manages a surprise.Although it is a sequel to the other Uriel Ventris books, NightBringer and Warriors of Ultramar it is not paticularily important to read those beforehand and the style has improved. I would recommend however that you read Storm of Iron by the same author for there are a lot of connections between the two and Black Sun Dead Sky is more of a sequel to that book than the other two. For those waiting to hear more of Honsou and his Iron Warriors your wait is over!

Outstanding
I loved this little book, at times it is weird, at times disturbing and horrific for a warhammer tale, but i found it wonderfully imaginative and just a great read from a great writer. It is full of amazing scenes that any 40k fan will just love, for example the description of the iron warriors siege, the titan battles, all very well written with great detail. An essential read.

Uriel Ventris Takes It To Heart!
The third book in the series of Ultramarines Novels surrounded by Uriel Ventris. If you have read Nightbringer and Warriors of Ultramar then this is a must for you, as Uriel finds himself in the eye of terror itself and this time he gets personal on the wretched choas he finds inside.A gripping and excellent read from front to back, McNeil really has pushed himself this time and it rates a guaranted high seller book, even if you have no interest in warhammer this book opens your eyes to sci-fi and the horror of war itself. A must for all!
