Epic Pond Automatic Koi Fish Feeder for Ponds - 3.8L

A very dependable food dispenser for my outdoor gold fish pond (1,000 gallons) when I go on vacation. It is somewhat tedious to program for the amount of pellets dispensed and for the time of day and days of operation you want it to run but works reliably. It uses small batteries which don't drain easily. The lid locks so that animals cannot get to the food. Of course a bear would have no trouble breaking into it even thought the plastic is sturdy. It comes with a plate with screw holes for attaching to a board or other device to prevent it from tipping over in wind and from curious squirrels. Rain so far has not dampened the food. The directions could be rewritten to eliminate some confusion. I recommend it.

The instruction manual asserts that the total maximum volume of each feed cycle is programmable in incrementsof .056 cups of feed. The device maximum volume setting is 9 which should gives a computed volume of 0.54 cups.In a test on my dining room table, the device delivers approximately 1/4 cup of 50% each 3/16" and 5/16" feed.With 100 tilapia at about 7" each, I need almost a full cup of feed, delivered all at once to keep the big boys fromeating all the food at each delivery.I bought this too long ago now to return it. While it may work, for awhile, for some small delivery needs, it pretty muchfailed in a slightly larger application.

The instructions could have been a bit clearer, but it worked well feeding our koi while we were out of town. We only have one fish, so I set it to the lowest volume of feeding and only one feeding per day (which the instructions don't explain how to do), and all was well when we returned. Mounting the unit will generally require some imagination (it certainly did in my case). Since I just placed it on a rock, I ended up weighting it down a bit to prevent raccoons from knocking it over.

The unit functioned great until the first rain. Even though it is designed for outdoors, the feeder became clogged and would not dispense food. I would not buy it again.
