Ecobee3 Wall Plate - Unfinished

After 2 weeks the paint started chipping. I would have returned it but to take it down, wait for a new one, and hope for a different outcome is problematic. Nonetheless... looks good out of the box.Updated with a pic per Smart Finish's request...

I purchased this to avoid to have my wall painted because of the old thermostat that was there before. If I was not good at modifying things I would have returned it. The holes do NOT match the Ecobee3 main wire plate. Had to drill holes in order for this to fit right. Other small issue is that after installing the main unit the fit looks just OK. Almost like it was for another type of Ecobee... See pictures for example. I would have expected that this would have a better finish. In the end it does the job but wanted a better fit.

Fit my Ecobee 3 perfectly and looks beautiful with the wood trim and floors in my home.Note- this replaces the entire back plastic trim plate. I think some people are complaining about the fit without actually installing it right. It doesn't come with instructions, so I guess that's confusing. I found the fit to be perfect. This covered up a lot of holes from a lot of previous thermostat mounts in my plaster wall, and really added an element of "class" to the otherwise sterile looking Ecobee.

The Ecobee3 Golden Oak wall plate blends well with our Oak doors in our house and gives a "finished" (I always belonged here) look to the thermostat. I did not need to hide screw holes from the old thermostat's wall plate, the thermostat alone would have done that, but I installed the Oak plate because it looked very nice. Highly recommend if you hace oak or any other stained doors in your house.

Overall it worked as described and looks the same as the picture. I needed it because my last thermostat was a flush mount and left a big hole in my wall that the factory trim plate could not cover. I've left it unfinished for now and it does not look too bad. The price is a little high for what it is, but I couldn't find a competitive product after a lot of research and this one seem to be pretty good quality.

I bought this for my new Ecobee3. I patched and painted the wall where I installed the Ecobee3 so I didn't need the Wall Plate to "hide" anything, I just liked the look. It was easy to install and looks great on my wall with my new smart thermostat. Doesn't come with any instructions, but none are really necessary. Simple, easy to install, very nice appearance.

The wall plate looks great, much better than the white plastic plate provided with the Ecobee 3. It was easy to install and the thermostat fits very nicely. The only issue is that there is no guide for the thermostat base plate (where the wires connect). The design could be improved by routing a small indentation for the plate (so it fits flush with the wood surface), but it works well as is.

This is for the Oak Wood Finished ones.As for fit I am not sure what folks are doing, but you must remove the Ecobee supplied trims and just use the backer plate. And make sure it's aligned properly within the Smart Finish trim plate. Mine fit perfect.My only compliant is with packaging. I ordered 3 and they were all just stuffed in a UPS bag, in shipping they banged around and the finish was marred. My suggestion to Smart Finish is to put each trim in a separate bubble wrap bag to protect the finish in shipping. The shrink wrap is not cutting it.
