Two CD set. Contains two albums by the British band originally released in 1970 and 1971 plus bonus tracks. Stone the Crows were one of the most gloriously talented bands of their generation. They had not one, but two of the finest vocalists of the era and owe their name to the influence of Peter Grant who was their co manager. Stone the Crows had a blues rock based sound that was predicated on the outgoing inspiration of American artists from that period as well as on the more introspective sounds for the folk and jazz scene.

The total less than the sum of the parts?
I really wanted to like this band due to the fact that it had two really great singers in it. Namely Maggie Bell, probably best known for ‘No Mean City’, also check her out on the album ‘Midnight Flyer’ and Jimmy Dewar who was the bassist and vocalist with Robin Trower. However the band never seemed to produce tracks that really grabbed you and made you want to listen to them over and over again. Was this down to the lyrics or did they need a guitarist of the standard of Ritchie Blackmore, Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Uli Jon Roth or Michael Schenker to lift the songs to a higher level? Whatever was lacking they never connected with the record-buying public in a big way as they only ever produced four LPs, and only troubled the charts once with their last album peaking at no. 34.

Great idea putting 2 fantastic albums from the second best ...
Great idea putting 2 fantastic albums from the second best band ever to come out of Glasgow, after SAHB. Great listening to classic rock from the seventies again, takes you back, makes you feel great again. Few bands nowadays are as accomplished as Stones the Crows
