A page turner
The Sun Down Motel is a page turner of a book that will keep you reading. Told in two timelines, the past and the present, the book tells tge story of young girl who has come to work in the same motel from where her aunt had disappeared years ago, never to be found. What happened to her? Is the motel a site of crime? Or is it just another creepy place? Or is there something worse than that happening here?St James mixes supernatural elements in her suspense novel here as well but the best thing is that her explanations are not based on supernatural only. All in all, a satisfying read. PS, the cover also looks gorgeous!

Little slow in the beginning but as it gets in the middle it's amazing loved it. One of the best thrillers loved Nick and Carly. And Vivian was great. Alma and Marnie was fun too. Totally recomend go ahead.worth it? Yes totally.

A murder mystery in horror genre with an amazing narration
The story revolves around Viv in 1982 and Carly in 2017 and how Carly has set out to resolve the mystery behind Viv's disappearance. Although the plot may be clichèd, a serial killer roaming free after murdering teenage girls, the suspence is not. I absolutely loved how the author has chosen to narrate the stories in two timelines simultaneously. You may get confused at times due to the similarities in the incidents and locations in both the timelines but eventually merging both the timelines was really impressive.I'm not a big fan of horror genre- movies, books, stories nothing. I don't believe in ghosts hence find it difficult to remain engaged. However this book made an exception. Unaware of the horror genre in the begining, the description of the motel going dark, the doors opening one by one and the Betty's voice sucked me right into the little town of Fell and dropped me in the middle of the parking lot of the Motel watching it all happen. It was so spooky that I had to lock my room while reading this book coz even a little voice startled me.Overall an engrossing, suspenseful and mysterious thriller and therefore I would rate it 4.5/5Favourite quote- "The person who could be truly alone, in the company of no one but oneself and one's own thoughts - that person was stronger than anyone else."

A compelling read
This book has a duel timeline - one of Vivian, who disappeared from The Sun Down Motel in the winter of 1982 and of Carly, who takes up the night shift at Sun Down to solve the mystery of her aunt's disappearance. The Sun Down is not just any motel though. It's a motel with a past and ghosts. The book follows the journey of Vivian and Carly as they try to uncover it's secrets and dig up the past.I love Viv and Carly. They are extremely well written characters, both with their own engaging narratives. The setting of the story is perfect. I love how the author scattered the pieces of the story far and wide and made them all come together so effortlessly. I really liked how half of this book was set in 80's and the contrasts between Vivian's and Carly's lives. I felt deeply for Vivian. I could almost feel the loneliness she felt, coming out of the pages of this book to haunt me. I was relieved whenever the book switched to Carly's pov and I saw she wasn't as lonely or scared as Vivian. The only issue I'd with this book was the ending. It was off - chaotic, rushed and a bit random. It wasn't nearly as impactful as the rest of the story. But I still enjoyed this book a lot and totally recommend it to anyone looking for a mystery that is both creepy and thrilling.
