Clunes, MartinDoc Martin: Series 2

He's totally the opposite of what he played before
I guess that's a mark of good acting because he did play a very excitable fellow last and this time he's playing an unemotional medical genius.

CONTINUED DELIGHT
This season two (2) in this series continues to delight me. As in season one, season two is so well directed, produced and most of all it is fantastically acted.Martin Clunes, as Doc Martin is fantastic as the rather gruff but highly intelligent GP in the small picturesque seaside village of Portwenn. He still has the worse "bedside manner" and tends to speak his mind no matter how rude it may sound which provides for many hysterical moments in the show--you will laugh out loud, trust me. The village is full of all kinds of very eccentric characters for the Doctor to treat and treat them he does. In actuality, Doc Martin is really damn good at what he does. He solves many medical mysteries; however, he has two major problems: (1) he cannot abide the sight of blood (the reason he's no longer in London as a surgeon) and (2) as I said before, no bedside manners.I loved all eight (8) episodes on three (3) discs in season 2. Nevertheless, I simply adored the episode called "Blood is Thicker" it is about a rather "Hitchcocken" family that lives on the "Moors" with a vicious dog and a mother that no one has seen for years and years. It is delightful. By the way, this family is taxidermies by trade and love to stuff dead animals plus they are overprotective of their mother that no one has actually laid eyes on for a long time plus they are suffering from severe food poisoning which brings in Doc Martin.Buy this season two. You will love it and like me, be glad that you "discovered" this series.

Okay, What about Season 3?
I'll admit that I came late to the Doc Martin saga, and the first season was fresh, amusing and quirky--sort of a House becomes the MD in Northern Exposure. As a bonus, the always interesting Lucy Punch was a regular. Portwenn is full of the requisite number of eccentrics, and the "hook" of a surgeon who faints at the sight of blood trumps a Vicodin addict for its humor potential (if you ask me).Season 2 starts exactly where the first one ended. The ancillary plot of the Constable being duped by the pretty, round-faced stranger was interesting and unexpected (at least by me). You see the "but" coming, don't you? Here it is--the continuing romantic issue of "will they/won't they?" between Martin and Louisa already feels repetitive and a little stale. For the life of me, I don't get what she sees in him. The patient problems and Doc's solutions feel a tad formulaic as well.In the Season 2 finale, we see Martin "sentenced" to some government-sponsored "Courtesy Classes" to improve his doctor-patient relationships. This premise appeals to me enough to tune in. Despite my misgivings about the "romance", I want to see what direction it takes. However, if the episodes become interchangeable, it's over for me. The fact that there is a Season 5 available gives me hope that Season 2 was only a bit of a sophomore slump, and that the fun, fresh, quirky Doc Martin will return.

Doc Martin Series - British show us how it's done.
After viewing a few episodes of Doc Martin on tv, I decided to purchase Series 1. I then purchased Series 2, 3 and 4. That did it, I was pulled in. The British have shown us how to write an outstanding series and keep us wanting more. From the opening scenes of "Port Wenn" a fishing village in England, the theme music, the few strains of heart-tugging music when there is an affectionate moment between Doc Martin and Louisa, the lighting on the faces of these two when there is a closeup, dark shadows on one side of the face, and little brighter on the other, the unspoken words between them, but the eyes and the facial expressions are the script. These are some of the brilliant aspects of this series. The supporting actors look and are dressed as though they pulled them from the village to act in the series. The story lines are such that you can pick up an episode when you want a repeat performance to enjoy for about 45 minutes each. They were wise to produce only between 6 to 8 episodes per year. You are never satisfied, but always wanting the story to continue. As per the internet sites, Series 5 will be filmed this summer. I can hardly wait!

Quirky, fun and excellent acting by the entire ensemble.
I was originally given the Doc Martin: Series 1 as a gift. Having not watched "Doc Martin" before but being a big fan of British comedies/dramas, I watched carefully. At first I thought, how odd the main character is as I watched the first episode. But as I continued to watch the entire Series 1, I found the show to be very entertaining and even enlightening, in some respects. I have grown to become an avid fan of "Doc Martin" and Martin Clunes is the best choice to portray this character. Series 2, with 3 discs, just continued the entertainment that I couldn't wait to see. Oh, and the fabulous setting of "Portwenn" as the backdrop, is such a picturesque setting that it adds to the storyline and it takes the viewer on a tour while each episode unfolds and draws you in.

The Best ever!!
Somebody (we can't figure out who) gave us the season 1 DVD for Christmas. Didn't get it at first but we are so hooked now. This is a wonderful, smart series and the scenery is just incredible. Great characters and writing. Finished the first season and found that the rest was via online viewing. Got an Acorn subscription and voila, the flood gates just opened up. Got a years subscription for less than the price of a couple DVDs which I was about to buy. Couldn't be happier. Our local service provider dropped BBC channel over a year ago and we hated that - this makes up for that 100x over and no commercials! Cheers...

Good for a laugh
This series is just great easy watching. Based on the original Saving Grace film which also has Martin Clunes as Dr Martin Bamford - not at all the same grumpy character as in these. There are also two TV episodes - 'films' made by Sky Pictures which only appear to be available now in region 1 from USA - Doc Martin: The Movies [DVD] [2001] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC], but are equally as good. See review there. Again not the same Doc Martin as in these but very enjoyable all the same. I had to buy this series 2 disk again as the dog managed to switch on the DVD player, eject the disk and take the disk out proceding to put little puppy teeth marks all over it making it unplayable! I just had to replace it though.

Doc Martin.
Having missed this complete series on TV, I was interested to find where was the cheapest place to buy it. After searching around, as always, I found it here on Amazon and with free delivery.Martin Clunes is at the top of my list for favourite actors and plays every role with perfection. I found it both serious and humerous and well worth buying. I will watch this over and over again.

Cracking Second Series
What a Cracking Second Series just as good as the first. All the actors are superb but special mention has to go to Martin Clunes and Caroline Catz who really make this a delight to watch. The Scenery is Excellent and really makes me want to dive in my Car and and visit the village of Port Isaac.I can see Doc Martin running for Years and Years - all they have to keep up is their high Production Values and they are on a Winner. While Hunting for extra Information I looked on the Production Company Web site { Portman Films} and there is a ' Doc Martin ' running time 86 mins and a ' Doc Martin and the Legend of the Cloutie 'running time 86 mins but its a ' Doctor Martin Bamford ' and not ' a ' Doctor Martin Ellingham ' although still filmed in Cornwall with Martin Clunes playing the lead - it would appear that both titles are deleted but I have found them using a Auction site but the actual disks are from Australia. Both Titles { as well as Doc Martin - Series 1 and Series 2 } were Produced by Phillipa Braithwaite who is Martin Clunes Wife - they run a joint Production Company.

Very funny
Martin Clunes can do no wrong - what a talented actor he is! I always managed to miss Doc Martin when it was on TV and finally managed to get Series One cheap in a sale, and after watching it, was keen to see Series Two - which does not dissapoint. Both DVD's are now doing the rounds with the family. Highly recommend.
