Cover stitching comes loose
The quilting threads on the outer cover have broken and come loose after less than three months of use and no washing yet. I use this wedge daily to lift my legs on the recliner leg rest. The broken loose threads came from normal wear and tear of having my legs on the wedge! It looks terrible and the cover will soon come apart and disintegrate because of this shoddy construction. Also it is rough feeling to bare skin, but I got use to that. I specifically paid the higher price for this wedge to get a quality cover included. I am very disappointed and frustrated and my only recourse is to buy another cover. Wear and tear of a moving body on the cover is to be expected and easily broken threads in this manner rendering the cover coming apart shows poor quality. That is the reason for my low rating. The wedge itself is more comfortable than others I’ve had without the egg rate foam. I highly recommend the egg crate foam. I use to elevate my legs and at first the thickness at the low part against the back of my thighs was uncomfortable, but the foam has settled and mashed down some in less than three months so it’s more comfortable now. In fact, there is a lasting impression where my legs have been in the foam in less than three months. I’m not sure that speaks to durability, especially for the price. But with the egg crate foam it is a much more comfortable wedge than I’ve ever had before and I’ve had 4 over the years, so there’s that. If you can tolerate the rough threads scratching your bare skin, until they break and ruin the cover. Maybe I can find a different replacement cover online somewhere. Thank you.

Foam came dirty
The one I received was really dirty, even though it was fully sealed. I’m not sure what to think. I can’t decide if I should send it back or deal with knowing it’s dirty forever and not knowing what it is contaminated with.Other than this issue, it seems like a fine pillow. The case seems nice. I just don’t trust it now. Disappointing.

Good quality foam wedge with nice cover
I got the 7-inch by 24-inch by 24-inch wedge. This product is also sold in a 12-inch height.I have slept on a wedge foam pillow just this size for the past 20 years as a prevention for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which runs in my family. It is also helpful for people like me who have allergies with post-nasal drip. Twenty years ago, I had to special order my wedge and the cotton, zippered cover on it. Using a wedge like this was rather avante garde in alternative health at that time and they had to be specially cut to size. Not so these days. There are many ready-made wedges on the market, and the cover doesn't always cost extra anymore either, which is the case with this product. This means a wedge today costs about one-fourth the price I paid years ago. This wedge is somewhat typical of the wedge-with-cover products on the market today and seems to be a good quality version of that type of product. This product arrived with the foam rolled up like a sleeping bag and packed in shrink-wrapped plastic, that is, with all the air sucked out to make a very tight package for shipping. It took me a while to figure out that the zipper slides across the entire top of the cover and 1/3 down each side because this product does not come with instructions. I initially assumed that the zipper only opened up across 1/3 of one side, which would have made it impossible to slide the foam into the cover. Since I am not a handy person, whatsoever, it took me ten frustrating minutes of vainly trying to shove the rolled up wedge into a too-small opening before I figured out how far the zipper extended. But once I overcame that hurdle, it was relatively easy to stuff the foam into its cover, except for one problem. Two corners of the cover are rounded, but all the edges of the foam are pointed. That's a flaw, because those rounded corners will wear out those pointed edges over time, and meanwhile, the points create little lumps in the rounded corners that can be uncomfortable to roll onto when sleeping. The foam is flat on one side and eggshell-textured on the other. The cover is well made with good-quality fabric. The zipper is lightweight and seems a bit fragile. The entire pillow is washable, ideally on cold water and gentle cycle. I wouldn't recommend putting this in the dryer.Based on using one of these wedges for years, I have some suggestions to offer to newbie wedge users which can increase the life of your wedge and your personal comfort:1. Since a wedge like this will not fit beneath a fitted sheet, and I do not care to lie on the bare cover because it is uncomfortable, and it will wear out quickly if it has to be washed every time the sheets are changed, I do this instead: (a) Put a mattress pad on the mattress. (b) Put a fitted sheet on the mattress. (c) Place the wedge on top of the fitted sheet. (d) Place a large, thick bath towel over the wedge to act in the same way that the mattress pad does on the mattress, protecting it from absorbing sweat and skin cells and offering that enticing combination to dust mites, who thrive on it. The towel also makes the poking edges of the zipper less intrusive. I swap out this towel and replace it with a clean one every time I change the sheets. (e) Place a non-fitted sheet over the whole bed, including the wedge. (f) Place a regular bed pillow on top of the wedge for sleeping. (g) Wash the zippered cover on the wedge and the fitted sheet on the mattress only when I, periodically, wash the mattress pad.2. Every time I change my sheets, I flip over the wedge so it can wear evenly. Because of its shape, it is reversible (though the one I own now is smooth on both sides, rather than one side being eggshell texture). If you are in the market for a wedge to elevate your head while sleeping, I think this one would be a good buy. You might want to air out the foam for a day or so before sleeping on it the first time. All foam outgasses smelly, toxic formaldehyde when first removed from its plastic protective covering after purchase.

Highly recommend this with one big complaint
This is a review for the HealthSmart Premium Foam Comfort Bed Wedge with Spill-Resistant Cover, 7x24x24.I have so many positive things to recommend about this bed wedge - I have an autoimmune disease and because of it, I need to have my head elevated at night. This is also the case for many people who suffer from GERD or acid reflux. It’s also good for people who snore (side-looking at my husband as I type this.)I ended up getting a Sleep Number bed because of my health problems - I put my bed in the Zero Gravity position which has pretty much resolved my sleep issues . But before I got that bed, I did rely on bed wedges similar to the one being reviewed here. This bed wedge is the best I’ve ever tried. It’s very comfortable; it has the egg carton foam on one side which is fantastic. All the other bed wedges I’ve tried have felt awkward and had more of a sharper incline that feels unnatural for sleep and make your legs uncomfortable. The gradual incline with these wedges, especially with the egg carton side up, is so much softer and more conducive for sleep (The great thing about adjustable beds is that you can lift the knee part too. If you want to duplicate that zero gravity feeling you can get a separate knee wedge to use with this.)So my complaint? I am so frustrated with the cover. It is very attractive and has a great feel to it - but I was unable to get the cover back on after the wedge expanded without the zipper breaking. I have two of these wedges - one in this size and one and another one that is larger - 12x24x24. Otherwise they are identical with similar covers. The same thing happened when we tried to put the cover on that! If the cover just had a wider zipper opening or was a tiny bit bigger, this would not have happened. So I do recommend these bed wedges - especially the larger one because I need a little more lift for my GERD and other issues. The smaller one would be great for someone who doesn’t like to be that elevated and would probably be more comfortable sleeping on that one.Because I want to take these when I travel, the fact that the cover(s) zipper broke is a big deal. But I do like it enough that we are just using a flat twin sheet instead. Not so pretty but it works.

Super comfortable, but terrible smell
I've been using a wedge pillow for acid reflux for years, and they work great for that. This is the most comfortable pillow I've used. It's much softer than any other pillow I've had. I put my regular pillows on top of it and I'm perfectly comfortable and get a great night's sleep with no acid reflux issues. Other wedges I've had were so firm that even with my regular pillows on top, I'd wake up with my ear hurting from the pressure. The problem I did have with this pillow was the smell. The first night I used it, the smell was so strong (almost a moldy like chemical smell) that my regular pillows smelled also. I had to get up and change the pillow cases it was so bad. I aired it out outside in the sun for a couple days and it still smelled very strong. I also washed the cover, which is a very nice quilted fabric. I dried the cover outside instead of putting it in the drier. The cover came out odor free, but not the foam. I really wanted to use this pillow because it's so comfortable, so I looked online for solutions. The one that worked for me to get the smell out is using pet odor removal spray of all things. The instructions said to spray it thoroughly and let it sit for 20 minutes. Then I rinsed it really well in my shower and blotted it as dry as I could with towels. Then I put it back outside to let it finish drying. The smell was finally gone, and now I'm really happy with this wedge. I'd give it 5 stars, but the effort I had to put in to make it usable made me remove one star.
