Stimulating for assessing the responsibility of convicted criminals.
This is a historical document of criminology. The topic, study of the cranium, isn't so popular in our time. I assume this work from the 19th century is out of print. For professionals reading it can be stimulating. I don't know if his findings were debunked. I cannot view this as a physician or professional sociologist. I'd recommend it to anybody interested in this area of learning. It does make you think and wonder about the criminals depicted so often on documentaries showing the criminals themselves.

Interesting
this is a good read for someone interested in criminology and sociology. I did not read for any type of course study information. I do agree that prisoners should pay their way and any additional money they make should go to the victim of their crime. also, criminals should not have better living conditions than the honest person trying to make a living. I believe that execution should be executed in a prompt manner, not years and years.

This book helped me ace my criminology course.
An interesting, excellent, yet embryonic look into criminal sociology, and the criminality psyche. Truly enjoying the analytical theorist connection to historical society and present divergence. A comparative that was both useful and delightful to read and incorporate into our current globalization of crime.

An Informative Read
This book is quite old, it was written for criminal sociology of the late 1880s. However, some of the observations of the penal system then and still ring true to the penal system today.

Good introduction to a popular field of study...
Good, in place of loaded text books, which should be started with direct application of crime simulations. The short book is a good open introduction. When I took classes, I had a police officer as the professor, after all. With it, some details were a positive or negative matter, not ones familiar to all, but the ones respectively otherwise, as well.

Wonderful historical look at the history of criminology
The language in this book is just as crisp, precise, and edifying as when it was written over 100 years ago, and provides excellent historical context to the modern understanding of forensics and criminal profiling.

but it was a good deterrent.
I found this book very interesting, even though it was not based on British crime and the penal system, it made you think. I found that as I was reading this book it was handy to have a an up to date sociology book close to hand so that comparisons could be made with the theories therein the book. After reading this book, the way criminals were treated then and how they are treated now makes you think that they are being rewarded for their crimes instead of being punished. Obviously the treatment then would not be allowed today, but it was a good deterrent.

worth a read to find out where criminalogy went wrong.
If you want to find out why the liberal elite have handed over society to criminals, this book shows the steps taken, the elaborate intellectual convolutions needed to make wrong right, to excuse the perpetuators. It is strange that as law and order collapses in western societies, this is considered an injustice to the lower orders, but they end up suffering most, being unable to defend themselves for the predators.

Topical
With the advent of such televisions shows as CSI, this subject matter appeals to some. What causes a criminal to carry out their particular form of crime and why. This ebook would appeal to all the 'part time' CSI investigators out there.I have found it interesting and suspect others might too.I recommend it.

I had real difficulty understanding this book. I should have read the blurb, I thought it was more modern.
