It all happened so quickly. First, animals became infected with the virus and their meat became poisonous. Then governments initiated the Transition. Now, 'special meat' - human meat - is legal. Marcos is in the business of slaughtering humans - only no one calls them that. He works with numbers, consignments, processing. One day, he's given a gift to seal a deal: a specimen of the finest quality. He leaves her in his barn, tied up, a problem to be disposed of later. But she haunts Marcos. Her trembling body, and watchful gaze, seem to understand. And soon, he becomes tortured by what has been lost - and what might still be saved. Review: Hooked till the end. - Great book. Really bloody and messed up. It's really graphic, has a good pace, keeps you hooked till the last and the end makes you go - "What ?!!" Never read a horror book per se before this but I loved this one. Review: It is kinda disturbing but best book to read - Niceeee ......

Pure Masterwork. Definitely the author's magnum opus.
So the thing is however different a person may seem at first, deep inside we all are an animal who on a given scenario may end up eating each other one day. Nobody is an exception to this. Now coming to the book, it is well translated from spanish by sarah mosses, so points for that. The story is from the 3rd person view. It is fast paced and not too long. The ending will definitely leave a mark on the reader and will stay lingering in the mind for some days surely. This is a very unique kind of dystopian horror novel that shakes the reasoning of its readers. Where are we headed to with all this overpopulation is a vital question it asks on a very subtle note. This is one of my best reads this year and overall ranks high in the list of my most liked books. I will highly recommend it but will also suggest proceeding with caution since it is high on difficult and disturbing topics.

Needed a little more nuance, a little tenderness.
You can read the book at a pleasant speed and the plot moves smoothly. But, it places too much emphasis on shock value and neglecting or stepping aside anything humane. Resembling Critical animal studies, the book is intended to provoke a discourse of animal ethics and factory farming. Yet by making all humans cannibals, I think it misses the point of treating every organism with respect. Will anybody care about others if your own species is demented. More importantly, it homogenizes animals, reducing all their diversity by just calling them animals, grouping fishes, insects, dogs, cats, snakes and parrots. I found that rather Cartesian, something the novelist would have aimed to critique.

Will keep you awake at night, leaving you wondering.
Very interesting book, given the world is already heading towards it’s demise. But the book? Great quality covers and thick sturdy pages.

Stomach churns while reading this book.Paperback condition of paper is very good quality.
Extreme gory, horror & scary book. This isnt like a story or a plot, it’s as if the writer reports of things happening in a dystopian universe. Keep away from children or weak-minded adults. It can give U nightmares. The narration of capitalising human meat consumption, making it legal is written clear & concisely, easy to understand of how that world operates making breeding humans as livestock. Finished this in 6hrs. Gruesome, but a curious-filled read. Am going to watch cartoon movies now to ease my mind.

Great read for gore lovers
The book was very heavy. I read it completely in just three days and it has some gruesome content. The story is very bizarre which is expected. It was fun to read but I would have loved if there was more to read.

A good read and mild entry to extreme horror
I liked the story and the themes it presented but at the end it felt kind of rushed as if the author had nothing else to talk about. I also wish the characters were more fleshed out because at times I would confuse each character have to re read sections to see if it was another character or a new one other than that it’s a good read. The ending was a shock lol

No te deja indiferente

Mixed feelings
3.75 on IG. Could you imagine what it would be like to be a cow/chicken or a pig in this world? What it would feel like to be bred for consumption? right, me neither but I sure can imagine it now after reading this nightmare of a book😅. I didn't list the TW because this book has all of them and I simply don't have the time.. I really liked the deeper message behind this story and the way the author paints a picture is brutal. She did not hold back. Everything is graphic, every scène is being told as if you would just be stating facts. The writing felt razor sharp. The problem I had with this was the sudden drop in the middle of the world how it is now. There's not enough backstory/detail included what makes it feel unfinished. The ending is really unexpected and I'm over here like, what do you mean this is the end??!! I kept tapping my Kindle to check where the remaining pages were🤣. Some people like to have open endings like this but I absolutely hate it. I just need more answers 🤪 The one thing that this book has accomplished is that I now have the strong urge to become a vegetarian. Mixed feelings.

original, bloody, thought provoking
An original story that is violent, original and a peek at a human society that adapts to circumstances. Not for children.

One of the best novel of the past years.
Finished reading almost a year ago, and I'm still thinking about it. The ending is spectacular, truly a joy to see that such stories can still be written in the abyss of contemporary unoriginality.
