Q: Is this shampoo sulfate free?

Yes it says so all over the bottle

Q: Does this shampoo work well even if you don't use the matching conditioner?

It does but honestly I hate the way the shampoo by itself makes my hair feel. I definitely recommend using the conditioner also. It will leave your hair soft and tangle free!!

Q: Up to how many grains hard will this product work?

Sorry, not sure but it does help.

Q: Does it works good on dark hair?

I have dark hair that is bleached and it works great on mine. I don't think the color of hair matters.
