Great Read the first time, even better the second time. One to add to the collection
This is an amazing book about American gun history and centered mainly in and around Texas. This book is a work of art (Even with several typos, just like this review). You will find yourself loving each story/chapter you finsh, excited to read the next one and hoping the book will just keep going. It is an amazing work with incredibly famous and infamous people making appearances. Texas Rangers - Check. Outlaws - Check. Indians - Check. Mexican Cattle Thieves. - Check. Bank Robbers - Check. Buffalo Hunters - Check. Hired Guns - Check. Gangs - Check. Border Patrol - Check. Men before they became famous - Check. Men as they became famous - Check. Details of men after they faded from the limelight - Check. Colt, Smith and Wesson, Henry Repeaters, Winchesters, Shotguns, Browning Automatic Rifles - Check. If you are into US history, Texas history, or guns in general you will enjoy this book. If you have another family member of friend who likes at least one of the above, get this book, read it, lend it to them and you will get a tremendous return on your investment from the hours of conversation and reflection you will share.

Gunfighters
As always, Col. Charles Askins writes his stories in excellent fashion that are easy reading . He is always entertaining and this one is especially good. You'll read this faster that Wyatt Earp could draw and shoot, then reread it in a couple of weeks. I've got and read several "gunfighter" story books, this book is one of the better ones. This book arrived in a timely manner and in condition as stated in the ads. New means the the book hadn't even been cracked open and this one was new condition.

A good bedside read!
I enjoyed reading this book. Although totally irrelevant to current times, Askins offers an interesting perspective of western life in the post Civil War period and the character of the men who brought peace to the west.

Great read
Col Askins put together a great, historic look back at the men of Texas and their firearms.

Great reading
This book tells the factual accounts of many of the stories of Texas outlaws and law enforcement men in a manner that is extremely well done. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in factual information. They are written in a manner that makes one want to keep reading until the end. Col. Askins was a great story teller and he keeps one's interest in this book.

VG Book
Excellent book on a more obscure, limited audience topic - other than the coverage of gunfighters and "shootists" of those times.

Truth More Interesting than Fiction
Well told, true stories, written in refreshingly politically incorrect style. Some of it rings disturbingly true to today's problems with our southern neighbor. The Texas settlers were quite remarkable. We are not half the men that they were, sad to say.
