Works with Time Warner but you have to Call to make modem work
So, I bought this RCA DCM425 Digital Cable Modem because it was exactly the same model as the one that Time Warner Cable leased me. It was not a modem on the list of Time Warner's recommendations (which cost $70 or more), but I figured if it is the same model (costing less), I should be able to switch it out. Well, when I switched it, the modem I bought would not connect to the internet no matter how I restarted the modem, my computer and router. Disappointed, I thought the modem just didn't work and I left it unused for several months. I was upset that I didn't have time to return it and I wasted my money. After Time Warner kept raising their lease price, I decided that I should call Time Warner to see why this modem didn't work. Well, it turned out that the modem couldn't just be switched because Time Warner has to assign the modem (MAC) number to that internet line in order for the modem to work. It doesn't matter what modem you buy to replace the one they gave you, you have to call it in with the MAC and Serial Numbers located below the modem. They have to punch it into their computers and you have to wait 24 hours before the new modem is activated to work on your internet line. However, after I waited patiently for all this to be done, my computer was still not connecting. So, I called technical support again and it turns out that I had to unplug and replug the modem each time changes like this is made (even when I connect and disconnect cables between the wireless router and the computer).I also had to reset my wireless router and go to the router utility (found at the Start menu of the PC --> All Programs) and reinstall the configuration to make the router read the new IP address of the modem. By the way, Time Warner tech. rep. knew what the modem was connected to, such as the type of router and computer I had, but they won't help you connect to your router. They will only help you make sure that your modem works connected directly to your computer. You have to figure out how to reset the router yourself. In the end, this modem works with your Time Warner Cable internet at speeds of 1 MbPS and 15 MbPS (as those are the speeds I've used them on), but you have to call their tech support with the MAC and Serial Numbers in order for it to work--this is particularly important for those who said it didn't work. One last note, the modem I bought, once I got it to work, operates faster than the modem that Time Warner gave me.

Stick it to your ISP
I got this to replace my modem that got fried a few weeks ago. Called Time Warner, got it activated and I was back online in a few minutes. Very odd that the first Time Warner rep I called gave me a headache inducing runaround...something about this model not being in the list of approved modems (are you fraggin' kidding me?)that I have to wait for someone to call me back at no specific time for further...well couldn't wait for God knows how long for a call that may never come. I simply called back and got connected to the another rep who got me back online in a few minutes. Thought I should point that out just in case you run into a very clueless TWC rep.Back to business. I have Road Runner Turbo (Yep, not the fastest speed but hey...it meets my needs for now) and this modem works...yep it friggin' works! Can't believe I waited this long to get this. I was very irate (steam of fury pouring out of my nostrils and ears) when TW slapped a $3.99 modem rental fee on me out of the blues, on a modem that was supposedly free.Unless you believe in flushing money down the crapper (I do not subscribe to such, no matter how "small"), there is no reason why you shouldn't get your own modem and show a very symbolic finger to your ISP.One detail I must point out for TW customers(No clue about other ISPs) is that this is a DOCSIS 2.0 modem and cannot support any roadrunner package beyond Turbo. I din't really like the dismal 2mb uplink of turbo and wanted to upgrade to Extreme with 5mb uplink. unfortunately, I was told I would need a DOCSIS 3.0 modem Like the Motorola Surfboard 6141 to make the switch from turbo to extreme. Wish I had this information before purchasing the modem (my fault for not making the proper research). There's no problem so far but I have to give the modem 4 stars because I cannot attest to the durability, considering I have had it for less than a month. However, I'll be back for an update.

Great price, don't rent your cable modem.
I spent hours trying to get a motorola modem so I wouldn't have to rent from my cable internet provider to get the lowest cost. I also wanted to go wireless with my new home when my cable provider sent this little box for my new connection. I then looked into buying this item coupled with a wireless router like my old setup instead of going intergrated at more then 10X the cost. When i got my cable modem from Amazon, it even had a stamp from the cable provider on it, which encouraged me more that i made the right decision to buy. At first it would not work, because you have to call your isp provider to let them know the information on the tags to set it for you and their network. After that, just plug and play for most computers. USB option on this has been ok, but ethernet hard is the way to go and great for networking as a small brain for everything else. The specs aren't great to read but I checked on speedtest.net, and I have great upload and download speeds using this modem. Seamless when using a router. I only gave it four stars because it only has one ethernet output and is not multi output out of the box, but for less than $15 with a cable modem... just too price sensitive because shopping at Amazon is like getting an employee discount.

Seems to work
Item received in timely manner and was as described. Difficult to get hooked up properly with Comcast. Took 4 phone calls with 4 different Comcast technicians over a 3 1/2 hour time period to finally get it working. Each tech said they don't usually have this much trouble getting it hooked up. None of them had any explanation as to why it was so difficult this time. Since the modem has only been working for 2 days now, I have no opinion on it's reliability. Not sure that I'd buy this particular modem again. Bought this one since it was a duplicate of the one we were renting from Comcast so thought it would be easier to set up. Obviously that wasn't the case. There seem to be lots of better options with higher ratings available.
