The HF GMDSS DSC system is used for distress alerting including position determination of the vessel in distress, search and rescue coordination. Other vessels if needed will assist in getting a response to a distress message by relaying the distress. Commercial HF DSC systems runs tens of thousands of dollars. PersonalDSC lets recreation boats have the same security of accessing the world GMDSS DSC system. Personal DSC is windows based software for personal use by boats that are not required to have DSC, but want the security of ITU-R M493 compliant Distress, Communication Request and System Test capabilities. Many personal mariners already have a digital setup for their HF equipment to copy the maritime broadcast, maintain contact with Winlink or similiar systems. In many cases, a system is set up to run digital modes simply requires the installation of Personal DSC to have access to the worldwide GMDSS DSC system using a HF transceiver capable of operating on the DSC frequencies, audio interface from the computer sound card to the transceiver and an antenna. Software only. Requires USB port. Radio, interface and antenna are not included. Users must have a MMSI number before the software will run. A MMSI number can be obtained for free from BoatUS for owners in the United States. Check your country's procedures if outside the US.
