You don't bring me flowers.
The author concentrates on hardscape, lighting, water elements and garden tchotkes featured at the Chelsea Flower Show (CFS) in the past few years. The author provides a walk-through of the CFS, explaining the organization, judging and format. Then, he shows photographs of award-winning displays, and deconstructs each garden, numbering the features that he discusses in a short paragraph.I did not find this book of great interest as all of the gardens were temporary and constructed exclusively for the CFS. The designers were only filling a blank space and did not face the problems of designing for a pre-existing, outdoor environment. Thus, all the designs were made in an idealized environment and did not solve real life problems. The author did not include much discussion about plants, new plant varieties and clever combinations of plants, which was what I was expecting.

I love the Chelsea Flower Show - this book is a fair representation
Reading this book is cheaper & easier than a trip to the UK to experience this remarkable extravaganza in person. If you've not been to the Show - go! Otherwise, this is a good sample of what you'd learn there.
